    Job Summary

    The individual manages the California Agency Commercial Lines Underwriting Departments. The role is responsible for producer management of existing California Agents including book profitability and risk quality as well as being responsible for evaluating additional producer appointment opportunities. The individual must have excellent organizational skills and be able to multitask. This position will conduct and/or oversee training and mentoring of staff. This position will also work with Senior Management and collaborate with other Departments to design and implement workflows to maximize the effectiveness of the organization. Position is responsible for daily operations of the Commercial Accounts Underwriters including personnel oversight and work quality. Responsible for regulatory compliance on the lines of business written by respective staff. Must also possess good written and verbal skills and be able to effectively communicate complex information in a clear concise manner.

    Essential Job Functions

    + Review new business, renewal and endorsement requests. Gather data, analyze and evaluate all information provided. Obtain additional information as needed to determine acceptability based on underwriting guidelines and sound judgment.

    + Manage all personnel within your underwriting unit. Recommend salary adjustments, promotions, transfers and terminations.

    + Assess training needs of Underwriting staff and assist in implementing staff Development Plans.

    + Cooperate with co-workers to foster a teaming atmosphere. Establish and monitor workflows to meet goals.

    + Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with producers. Utilize effective sales and negotiation skills to obtain and retain accounts on the most profitable terms available to TMA.

    + Work closely with other internal departments such as Client Solutions, Loss Control, Claims, Premium Audit and Accounting to meet client service goals and increase knowledge on your accounts.

    + Follow TMA and Department of Insurance Guidelines to ensure the profitability and compliance of your book of business. Train other team members and participate in the self- audit process to ensure compliance.

    + Lead and/or participate in the implementation of Strategic Initiatives (Company, Dept, Region or branch)

    + Prepare and/or provide input into reports or special projects as designated.

    + Responsible for complying with proper internal controls as necessary to conduct job functions and/or carry out responsibilities and/or administrative activities at Company.

    + Actively participate in Agency/Producer management such as but not limited to, business planning, profitability management, relationship management which includes visitation and be an overall positive TMA advocate.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelors Degree preferred

    + Commercial underwriting experience

    + Technology literate to work with PC with related software applications (MS Office, 360, etc.). The ability to independently identify additional appropriate digital tools.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    S alary range of $165k - 185k. Ultimate salary offered will be based on factors such as applicant experience and geographic location. Our company offers a competitive benefits package and bonus eligibility on top of base.
