    Job Summary: The Director, Patient Access – Referrals and Scheduling (Revenue Cycle) oversees and leads the patient access team, focusing on referral management and scheduling functions across the health system. This role implements strategies to enhance the patient experience, streamline referral and scheduling workflows, and ensure optimal coordination of care while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

     

    Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, HealthCare Administration, or related field.

     

    Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

     

    Work Experience: Minimum 8 years of related experience including 2 years in a leadership level role.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle management, particularly in patient access, referral processes, and scheduling. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software applications. Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on improving efficiency and patient satisfaction. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively with the ability to identify and resolve problems efficiently. Ability to develop and execute strategies that improve access, referral, and scheduling processes. Proven ability to manage and optimize referral and scheduling workflows, with experience in using electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and build strong relationships with team members.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Oversees the daily operations of the referral management and scheduling teams within the patient access function, ensuring efficient processes and a high level of patient satisfaction. Leads efforts to streamline referral and scheduling workflows, reduce patient wait times, and enhance care coordination. Ensures that all activities related to access, referrals, and scheduling comply with relevant regulations, standards, and health system policies. Develops and implements training programs to improve the skills and knowledge of staff involved in access, referrals, and scheduling. Coordinates closely with clinical and administrative teams to ensure seamless referral and scheduling processes that support timely patient care. Monitors and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to access, referrals, and scheduling, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing solutions. Develops and implements strategies to enhance access, referral management, and scheduling functions, ensuring alignment with the health system’s strategic objectives.

     

    Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.

     

    Working Relationships: Direct Supervision of others. Prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
