Job Summary
This position will work exclusively at Primary Children’s Hospital while serving as staff in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the University of Utah School of Medicine. This will be a blended inpatient and outpatient clinical position. Primary responsibilities include working with PM&R physicians specialty trained in pediatric rehabilitation, assisting with our inpatient service including new consultations and children on the inpatient rehabilitation service with an array of rehabilitation needs including those recovering from trauma brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, and other neurologic conditions. In addition, approximately one-half day per week will be devoted to outpatient clinic with a patient population focused on those transitioning from in-hospital to outpatient care.
Responsibilities
This position will work with the PM&R physicians and interdisciplinary teams to complete the following responsibilities:
1. A clinical position with approximately 90% in direct patient care and 10% in admin time. New and follow-up consults will be performed as well as general rehab inpatient care, and one half day of outpatient clinic per week.
2. The position will work in close collaboration with PM&R physicians and will interact with all specialties within the Primary Children’s Hospital system
3. This position will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team including case managers, therapists, nurses, PM&R residents, social workers, etc.
4. Identify, assess, and diagnose problems through patient assessment and interactions; and evaluate actual or potential patient health problems.
5. Assess, plan, and implement interventions for solving patient care problems.
6. Formulate care plans for specific patients and document in the patients’ record.
7. Evaluate patient response to interventions and modify plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals.
8. Develop and participate in educating patients, their families, or significant others about post discharge care programs.
9. Initiate patient care meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as the patient’s condition warrants.
10. Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment in harmony with the Zero Harm initiative.
11. Provide guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care.
12. Utilize knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution; and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
13. Participate in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.
14. Additional responsibilities include the opportunity to work with medical students and residents, lecture and pursue other scholarly or research activities of interest.
15. A very collaborative environment exists between all professional faculty and staff.
16. The successful candidate should have a general knowledge of rehabilitation medicine and strong interpersonal skills. Salary will be competitive and benefits are excellent.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
+ Current licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant from the State of Utah.
+ Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
+ Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
