    _The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology_** **has an outstanding opportunity for an** **_Intermittent_** **Research Technologist 1** **in The Maternal Fetal Medicine research division.** **OVERVIEW

    The Maternal Fetal Medicine research division is a vibrant group at the University of Washington conducting research on several topics including infectious diseases, maternal immunizations, and immunity. The applicant will work with Dr. Kachikis in her research program investigating transfer of maternal immunity to infants.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary role is to support the investigator’s research program, including clinical and laboratory research. This individual will be responsible for participant recruitment and enrollment, clinical data abstraction and coordination of research procedures. Laboratory work may involve processing blood for serum, plasma, peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation, and placental samples, organizing samples and preparing sample shipments. Depending on experience and interest, this individual will have the opportunity to develop SOPs, oversee student work in the laboratory and participants in other aspects of the research program. We plan to involve this technician in academic opportunities, as appropriate.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Two years’ experience as a Laboratory Technician II, or equivalent; OR a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology.

Training or experience within a specific discipline will be required to meet the unique requirements of individual positions.

     

    _Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration._ **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS**

    Preference for an individual in the biomedical field (Biology, Biochemistry, etc.) or public health with comfort working in laboratory space and communicating with patients. Spanish speaking skills are a plus but are not a requirement. Prior research lab experience is ideal.
