Job Summary:
This position provides supervision and technical direction to a team of management employees (5-10 including contract/agency) engaged in Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance activity specializing in Product Safety Risk Assessment and Control System Functional Safety supporting various Caterpillar engineering design and system integration teams across the Enterprise. Reporting to this position are Engineering and Senior Engineering Specialists focused on Technical Regulatory Compliance activity in the fields of Control System Functional Safety and Product Safety Risk Assessment. All team members are expected to complete external certification by a third party to become an accredited Functional Safety Engineer.
What You Will Do:
• Manage the engineering staff and activities with an emphasis on achieving organizational goals, professional development and continuous improvement.
• Provide specialized engineering technical support and consulting services to internal Caterpillar product development team clients across the enterprise in collaboration with various process partners in Litigation and Regulatory Legal, Environmental Health & Safety, Technical Information Services, Emissions Regulatory Compliance, and Global Government & Corporate Affairs.
• Provide timely communication updates to chief engineers, technical managers, senior corporate regulatory and litigation council, product managers, new product introduction managers and individuals focused on product safety & compliance.
• Lead, monitor and participate in various International Standards Development and Industry Association activities.
• Monitor and continuously improve internal process performance, quality and cost-effectiveness.
Education Requirement:
Accredited degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related technical degree. Will accept 10 years of working experience in machine development in lieu of a degree.

+ Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated success leading diverse cross-functional teams
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to accurately interpret and convey complex technical requirements
+ Extensive experience managing multiple conflicting priorities with ability to respond to client needs in a value-added manner
+ Machine or engine design, development or validation experience
+ Experience with new product introduction, new technology introduction, and continuous product improvement
+ Experience with business plan management, including budgeting and expense tracking
+ Experience working with high voltage electrical / electronic systems
+ Electrical / electronic component design, development or validation experience
+ Basic understanding of global regulatory trends impacting automation, digital connectivity and electrification
+ Basic understanding of electrical and controls, and hardware / software development processes
+ At least 5 years of experience developing complex components or systems integration of such components
+ Experience facilitating product safety risk assessments
+ 6 Sigma / Lean project leadership experience
+ Experience participating in International Standards Development and Industry Advocacy efforts
+ Collaborative experience with regulatory bodies and third-party test or certification companies
+ Experience working with SISTEMA or similar safety related control system analysis tools
+ TUV or similar agency certification as a Functional Safety Engineer or Expert
Additional Information
The location for this position is Peoria, Illinois.
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position may require up to 25% travel, both domestic and international.
Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
