    About Baytown

     

    With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.

     

    Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

     

    Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

    What role you will play in our team

     

    Experienced polyethylene product development professional responsible for development of new polyethylene products for global deployment in support of ongoing market development activities. This role will require an independent problem solver, working closely with other functions (marketing, manufacturing and sales) and interfacing with other Polyethylene Technology market facing teams. Main role will be to serve as an integrated project team lead progressing new product developments through our staged-gate process.

    What you will do

    + Lead integrated product development project teams to develop new polyethylene products utilizing a staged-gate process

    + Work closely with other key functions such as manufacturing, sales and marketing identifies

    + Share new grades opportunities with the Polyethylene Business

    + Supports IP strategy and teams

    + Represents EM in interactions with key partners, academia, and industry forums

    + Provide technical leadership and quality assurance for research and research application deliverables

    + Utilize depth and/or breadth of experience to identify cross-functional business opportunities

    + Participate in internal networks through which their capabilities can be disseminated to the benefit of others.

    + Helps develop early career colleagues

     

    About You

    Skills and Qualifications

    + PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or equivalent work experience

    + Polyethylene structure-property depth and understanding

    + Polymer physical property testing and method development

    + Polymer synthesis

    + Knowledge of polymer additive chemistry

    + Data analysis/analytics and understanding of typical polymer characterization techniques. It is desired that the Potential candidate also has some level of understanding of common polyethylene conversion techniques such as blown/cast film, injection molding, blow molding and roto molding with special focus on film and flexible packaging

    + It is desired that the potential candidate also has some level of understanding of common polyethylene conversion techniques such as blown/cast film, injection molding, blow molding and roto molding with special focus on film and flexible packaging. In addition, knowledge of common polyethylene manufacturing processes is a plus

    + Detail the KSA’s required for the position: Polymer structure-property depth, polymer testing knowledge and understanding, understanding of polymer additive chemistry

    Preferred Qualifications / Experience:

    + Good communication skills, problem-solving, and adaptability

    + Good project management skills and organization and ability to work effectively across multiple interfaces

    + Ideally 5+ years working in relevant technical field such as polyethylene product technology or polyolefins product technology
