Reporting to the Global Laboratory Services Manager, the Testing Technician carries out specific technical assignments to assist a Testing Engineer in the successful completion of technical service requests and projects with moderate supervision. Important aspects of the position include the ability to follow work instructions and procedures to become proficient in the operation of a variety of instruments and equipment. The major criteria for successful performance are the ability to learn quickly, adaptability, dependability/willingness, accuracy, initiative, neatness and safety awareness. Because of the dynamics of the technical work, the activities are varied and require the Technician to learn and adapt rapidly.
The Technician will exhibit open and honest communication with superiors, peers, and subordinates (if any). The position requires the willingness to establish a good working relationship with peers by cooperation, mutual assistance, and exchange of information.
Responsibilities:
+ Set up equipment, prepare samples, perform experiments, and make appropriate measurements in a timely manner using all available laboratory equipment, with moderate supervision.
+ Assist Testing Engineer in providing Technical Services to Marketing and Manufacturing with moderate supervision.
+ Assist Testing Engineer in maintaining all laboratory equipment in good working order and provide for periodic calibration and laboratory correlations.
+ Become proficient in the operation of equipment, instruments and procedures/techniques.
+ Maintain up to date lab books and records in accordance with the Alkegen global systems.
+ Become proficient in computers. Prepare charts and graphs.
+ Actively participate in housekeeping and safety.
+ Actively participate in meetings and committees.
+ Actively participate in preventative maintenance.
+ Keep punctual attendance.
+ Pursue the timely completion of set targets.
+ Carry out special assignments, i.e., coordination of outside chemical analysis.
+ Recommend innovative and creative solutions for equipment, process, and product development.
In addition, the Technician may be responsible for the following duties:
+ Schedule and/or organize own work as required.
+ Suggest process and/or equipment modifications.
+ Use Alkegen global systems for communication, goal alignment, problem solving, and career planning.
Qualifications:
+ BSc degree or equivalent in a technical/scientific or engineering field, desirable but not essential.
+ 1 year+ laboratory experience in a technical, manufacturing and/or process engineering environment is desired.
+ Knowledge of mechanical, chemical or ceramic testing fields preferred, especially as it relates to inorganic specialty fiber materials.
+ Knowledge of process controls and analytical equipment is preferred.
+ Experience in using Microsoft Office (specifically Excel).
+ Ability to follow instructions and to become proficient in the operation, programming and maintenance of a variety of instruments and equipment.
+ Good communication, analytical capabilities, accuracy and neatness.
+ Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
+ Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety principles and practices relevant to laboratory work.
Compensation:
+ $64,224.00 - $73,650.00
+ Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
