About Blake Cross Country: The Blake School is an independent, co-educational, PK-12 day school with campuses in Hopkins and Minneapolis, MN. Job Description: The Assistant Cross Country Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to provide a comprehensive and positive cross country experience for student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will play a key role in developing runners of all abilities, promoting a positive team culture, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Responsibilities:
+ Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices.
+ Work with individual runners and small groups to improve technique, fitness, and race strategy.
+ Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team events.
+ Help foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
+ Assist with meet day logistics, including course walk-throughs, warm-ups, and cool-downs.
+ Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and the Head Coach.
+ Promote good sportsmanship and adherence to MSHSL rules and Blake School policies.
+ Assist with team administrative tasks as needed (e.g., equipment management, uniform distribution).
+ Attend all practices, meets, and team meetings as scheduled.
+ Prioritize the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
Required Experience:
Qualifications:
+ Previous cross country coaching or competitive running experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
+ Knowledge of cross country training principles, techniques, and race strategy.
+ Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.
+ CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
+ Familiarity with MSHSL rules and regulations is a plus.
+ A commitment to the educational mission of The Blake School.
