Glimpse of the Job
The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute is currently looking to hire a new Research Instrumentation Specialist. The R esearch I nstrumentation S pecialist will be responsible for designing and building equipment used to operate the K500 and K150 cyclotrons and all electronic and mechanical support equipment. The selected candidate will also p erform maintenance and repairs as needed.
Opportunities to Contribute:
+ Perform routine and emergency maintenance on all cyclotron equipment.
+ Advise faculty and staff regarding operation and maintenance of scientific instrumentation.
+ Provide routine operational testing.
+ Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.
+ Develop design s and perform construction of cyclotron and lab equipment.
+ Maintain schedule of submitted jobs and ensure timely completion of projects.
+ Assist in training of departmental personnel in the use of all instrumentation and software.
+ Order materials needed for special projects and repair parts and work on other projects as needed.
+ Update electronic schematics as needed.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
+ Five years of experience in operating and maintaining scientific instrumentation.
+ Ability to solder and use all test equipment needed to do the job .
+ Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes and various electronic test equipment.
A well-qualified candidate will also possess :
+ Technical degree in electronics.
+ Five years or more in design and maintenance of RF systems, low voltage high current and high voltage power supplies used in the operation of Cyclotron related equipment.
+ Ability to soft solder, silver solder, sheet metal work Hi power and low power rf systems like that used at the cyclotron.
+ Ability to w alk, sit stand, lift or move moderately heavy weight
Salary : Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.
Special Note: This position will need the selected candidate to operate on call as needed.
