    The Department of Biology is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our lab focused on developing and optimizing stem cell-based therapies for spinal cord injury. In this engaging role, you’ll contribute to meaningful scientific advancements by performing histological assessments, maintaining an animal colony, and managing essential lab operations.     Opportunities to Contribute

    + Perform daily health checks and monitor breeding and experimental animals.

    + Manage animal colony, including breeding, weaning, tail clipping, and genotyping.

    + Maintain accurate records of animal inventory and laboratory data.

    + Prepare reagents, buffers, and stock solutions; monitor reagent expiration dates.

    + Operate and maintain laboratory and research equipment.

    + Conduct data analysis, statistical evaluation, and summarize experimental results.

    + Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and write/update protocols.

    + Oversee lab inventory and supply management.

    + Ensure compliance with biosafety and animal use protocols; manage waste disposal.

    + Maintain a safe and organized work environment.

    + Train new lab personnel and assist students and staff with research activities.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, microbiology or closely related field.

    A well-qualified candidate will also possess

    + Master's or Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field.

    + Two years of experience working in a neuroscience research laboratory.

    + Experience managing a rodent colony in research setting.

    + Previous experience as a Lab Manager or Research Assistant.

    + Experience making chemical solutions and/or buffers.

    + Great oral and written communication skills.

    + Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.

     

    Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.

     

    Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.
