    Description

    The Senior Buyer is responsible for negotiating and purchasing materials, equipment, services and supplies from approved suppliers. The Senior Buyer role will be primarily responsible for purchasing chemicals to support production, R&D, analytical, and pilot plant. The Senior Buyer will assist with import compliance and other processes and areas of the Purchasing Department as assigned. This Buyer reports to the Manager, Procurement and supports companywide sourcing requirements.

    Job Responsibilities

    + Management of supplier relationships. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers across the globe seeking world class innovative, high-quality, capable suppliers

    + Request supplier quotes for chemicals or other materials, and assist in the evaluation of responses to determine the best suppliers based on cost, delivery, quality, and adherence to BSC requirements

    + Assist in evaluation of new raw materials and suppliers, support other departments as needed with recommendations of alternate suppliers, alternate materials that could be considered

    + Total Cost Ownership, understanding and managing all cost components up and down the supply chain

    + Communicate with Procurement Manager and all management levels to provide business-critical information on any contract, purchase order, and supply information

    + Review and process purchase requisitions to ensure conformance with specifications, quantity, cost, delivery, and issuing authority

    + Issue and maintain Purchase Orders in the ERP system; update appropriate personnel with order status and potential issues

    + Work with Procurement and MRP Managers to resolve raw material scheduling conflicts

    + Coordinate with suppliers to arrange freight and ensure timely delivery of materials; work with freight broker to coordinate inbound international shipments

    + Assist in the identification and evaluation of new suppliers for goods and services; obtain necessary certifications, and complete required paperwork to establish credit terms and accounts

    + Work with the Receiving Assistant and Accounts Payable to resolve receiving and invoicing discrepancies

    + Support Procurement manager in maintaining purchasing metrics for on-time supplier delivery

    + Develop and maintain supplier relationships, and negotiate favorable pricing

    + Provide leadership and mentoring to other buyers, support Procurement Manager in all business objectives and projects required,

    + Travel as needed to meet with suppliers, perform supplier audits and support Trade Show activity

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    BS Degree, preferably in a chemistry or chemical engineering discipline preferably with at least two years of purchasing experience. In lieu of chemical degree, candidate must have four or more years of applicable purchasing experience in a chemical industry with experience sourcing chemicals.

    Preferred Experience

    + Extensive lab or production scale formulation experience or exposure

    + Experience working for a manufacturing company with strong supply chain understanding

    + Understanding of ERP systems

    + Import – Trade Compliance working experience

    + Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office and internet sourcing

    + Experience in related chemical industry

    + Experience evaluating supplier quotes and proposals

    + Experience resolving PO concerns

     

    Work Environment

     

    The employee is frequently required to sit and use computer keyboard for extended periods of time. The employee may occasionally be required to review/inspect supplier shipments in the Receiving area, and will be expected to wear required PPE. May be required to travel in own vehicle between BSC locations. This position requires travel, up to 5-15% of the time, by air or vehicle.
