Position Summary/Description:
The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for an open rank fixed-term faculty position (12-month). This fixed-term faculty position will also hold a secondary appointment (12-month, at-will) as the Assistant Director of the MSW Education Program. The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, and improve lives. The curriculum supports this mission and includes a focus on evidence-based practice; concern for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families, and communities; and the design and development of social interventions. This position and its secondary appointment will be reviewed annually for reappointment.
Practicum Education Responsibilities (50%): We are seeking a candidate responsible for coordinating practicum education in social work practice areas. Candidates should have a breadth of social work practice experience and expertise and the ability to teach in generalist and direct practice or macro specialization courses. Specifically, the applicant should have experience in social work practice with assessment and intervention with individuals, families, groups, or communities and organizations. Experience working in practicum education is strongly preferred. Applicants with an LCSW or macro-level work experience and demonstrated skills and experience in teaching graduate-level classes or training are preferred. This position has a standard distribution of effort that includes 90% teaching and instruction and 10% service and community engagement.
Assistant Director of MSW Responsibilities (50%): The Assistant Director of the MSW Program will support the Associate Dean for MSW Education in the implementation and continuous improvement of the MSW academic program, with a focus on systems, infrastructure, and data-informed decision-making. This is a 50% FTE position designed for a detail-oriented professional with strong technical, organizational, and analytical skills. The Assistant Director will develop and maintain tools that support academic operations such as tracking teaching assignments, managing faculty appointments and reviews, maintaining committee and scheduling infrastructure, and supporting the documentation needed for program evaluation and accreditation. The role will also include responsibility for building dashboards, analyzing program and curricular data, and ensuring alignment of internal systems with university and accreditor expectations. Working closely with the Associate Dean and in collaboration with other units, the Assistant Director will contribute to a range of academic initiatives by providing data, structure, and logistical support. This role is not a leadership or decision-making position but rather a critical contributor to the backend systems that make academic leadership possible.
