    Regulatory Ingredients Specialist

     

    Purpose and Scope/General Summary: The Regulatory Ingredients Specialist is part of our Research & Development team and reports directly to the Senior Ingredients and Nutrition Regulatory Manager. This role supports the development of food products by accurately reviewing product and ingredient specifications that help drive plant production, and by supporting ingredient supplier food safety audits ensuring ingredient suppliers are following standard food safety & quality policies and procedures. This role is also responsible for assisting with the creation of new ingredients and their ongoing management, ensuring federal compliance and accuracy within the company. The overall goal of this role is to support both research and development, as well as plant teams in ingredient production, regulations, safety, and logistics. This role is located in-office full time at our Corporate office in Greeley, CO.

    Responsibilities:

    + Audit and publish product specifications for Pilgrim’s processing plants within PLM recipe development

    + Maintain BRC audit process; cross reference projects within Pilgrim’s project management system

    + Maintain communication site between Pilgrim’s and co-manufacturers including product specifications, BRC audits, and vital plant information

    + Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Regulatory, Labeling, Product Developers, Marketing, Quality Assurance, and Insights and Innovation Team to help the company be productive in the marketplace

    + Assist in the creation and maintenance of ingredient specifications in compliance with federal regulations

    + Compile timely and accurate answers to internal and external regulatory questions pertaining to allergens, product formulations, and claims

    + Conduct supplier vendor audits and evaluate regulatory documentation including technical specs, certifications, and guarantees

    + Evaluate and manage ingredient suppliers’ regulatory documentation including technical documents, 3rd party certifications, and letters of guarantee

    + Monitor USDA regulatory updates related to food, nutrition, and allergen policies, and product claim substantiation

    + Conduct supplier scorecard presentations in conjunction with manager and cross-functional teams

    + Engage with external vendors, ingredient suppliers, co-manufacturers, and USDA consultants as needed

    + Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degreein Food Science, Dietetics, or related technical field preferred

    + 0-1 year related professional experience

    + At least 1 year of experience in a consumer-packaged goods company preferred

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

    + Highly attentive to detail, self-motivated

    + Excellent organization skills, project management skills, and the ability to multitask

    + Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    + Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization

    + Knowledge of USDA regulatory landscape in the US as it relates to food product claims, claims substantiation, food and nutrition policies, allergen policies, and food safety preferred

    + Ability to manage cross-functional and external collaborations

    + Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once with assistance from manager

    + Problem solving and troubleshooting skills; ability to create solutions

    + SAP experience preferred

    + Ability to travel 15-20% of the time

    + Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation

    The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

    + Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;

    + Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;

    + 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;

    + Base salary of $56,500;

    + Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program; and
