    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    The Campus School at Boston College is a private, publicly funded special education day school within the Lynch School of Education and Human Development on the Boston College campus. The Campus School educates students ages 3-22 with extensive support needs, including complex medical needs.

     

    Responsible for the management of appropriate educational, therapeutic and health care services for each student, as indicated in the Individual Educational Plan.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans for each student

     

    in the classroom as well as attend IEP meeting

     

    Supervise, train and evaluate teacher assistants, work-study students, PULSE students, student teachers and volunteers.

     

    Chair weekly meetings to discuss students’ progress, monitor goals/objectives and classroom issues and classroom concerns

     

    Completion of daily lesson plans, Quarterly Reports, Educational Assessments, MCAS Alternate Assessments

     

    Attend staff meetings, inservice trainings, and weekly supervision meeting with education director Attend screenings for potential students as requested

     

    Work with Director and Assistant Director to develop curriculum and instructional strategies that promote optimal learning opportunities for each student

     

    Act as liaison to parents and local educational agencies

     

    Participate in the transition process for students in the classroom

     

    Work as part of transdisciplinary team to ensure students have appropriate therapeutic and instructional materials/equipment

     

    Support the mission of the Campus School at Boston College as a transdisciplinary team member

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for supervision of teacher assistants, student employees, PULSE students, student teachers and volunteers

    Requirements

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

    Related Work Experience

     

    One to two years of teaching experience working in a school for students with extensive support needs preferred.

     

    Experience with curriculum development and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks

     

    Masters degree in Special Education

     

    Massachusetts Educator’s License in Special Education

    Certifications (preferred): Receive initial certification and recertification as appropriate in the following:

    CPR

    Safety Care

     

    First Aid

     

    Skills/Abilities/Competencies

     

    Excellent Communication Skills

     

    Excellent Organizational Skills

     

    Excellent Interpersonal Skills

     

    Excellent Problem Solving Ability

     

    Ability to multitask
