Posting Summary
Provide specialized technical assistance in support of a Pharmacology laboratory studying ion channel regulation of smooth muscle function. Maintain transgenic mouse colonies. Purchase laboratory chemicals and equipment and reconcile monthly billing statements. Perform molecular biology and related experiments on tissue samples.
Assist in the planning, designing, development, and troubleshooting of protocols, research techniques, and experiments; collect and analyze research data; perform literature searches; operate and maintain laboratory chemical, animal, and equipment inventories and purchase as needed; develop standard laboratory operating procedures; maintain research results, protocols, methods, compliance with chemical safety regulations, and other documentation; and maintain day-to-day functions of running the lab as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in biology, pharmacology, physiology, neuroscience or a closely related field and one to two years’ experience in a laboratory environment using PCR and other molecular biology techniques required. Experience working with animals. Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to work with limited supervision required.
Effective written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills required. Ability and willingness to adapt to changing situations of multiple, concurrent projects and to adjust priorities accordingly. Ability to work independently, in a timely fashion and in precision and accuracy.
Desirable Qualifications
Familiarity with data acquisition software, UVM Click, VOS , and similar databases for resource management is a plus.
Anticipated Pay Range $21.50/hr - $25.00/hr
Other Information
Special Conditions Bargaining unit position, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, Contingent on continued funding, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions, Background Check required for this position
