    Advertising/Posting Title Lab Research Technician

    Posting Summary

    This lab technician will provide specialized technical assistance supporting scientific research projects designed to understand microvascular function in the brain, retina, and meningeal tissues.

     

    Provide technical assistance and support activities for a laboratory studying the vascular mechanisms that regulate blood flow in the brain during healthy and diseased conditions. Perform biochemical and molecular assays, maintain multi-strain transgenic and conventional animal colonies, and perform small animal surgeries. Assist in planning, designing, development, and troubleshooting of protocols, research techniques, and experiments; collect and analyze research data; perform literature searches; operate and maintain laboratory chemical, animal, and equipment inventories and purchase as needed; reconcile monthly billing statements. Develop standard laboratory operating and training procedures; maintain research results, protocols, methods, compliance with chemical safety regulations, and other documentation. Maintain day-to-day functions of running the lab as assigned by supervisor; serve as primary contact for the laboratory.

    Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

    Bachelor’s degree in biology, pharmacology, physiology, neuroscience or a closely related field and experience working or volunteering in a laboratory environment required. Familiarity with data acquisition, entry, analysis, and visualization software is essential. Effective written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills required. Ability and willingness to adapt to changing situations of multiple concurrent projects and to adjust priorities accordingly. Ability to work independently, in a timely fashion, with precision and accuracy.

     

    Trained in rodent handling, drug administration, and tissue dissection techniques, including isolation of cerebral arteries, pressure arteriography, and implementation of in vivo imaging techniques on cerebral arteries and capillaries.

    Desirable Qualifications

    Trained in the use of light microscopy and electrophysiology techniques, including confocal microscopy and in vivo or single-cell electrophysiology.

     

    Anticipated Pay Range $21.50/hour -$25.00/hour

    Special Conditions Bargaining unit position, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, Contingent on continued funding, A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions, Background Check required for this position
