    Role

     

    Serves as the primary centralized lending underwriter for consumer loan decisions. Receives and evaluates consumer loan applications submitted by Consumer Loan Officers and other Credit Union lending staff. Acts as a resource for information regarding loan decisions, customer loan inquiries, and company lending products and services. Responsible to grant or deny loans within limits assigned and to provide the highest quality of service to members by finding ways to maximize the number of service relationships the member has with the organization.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    + Receives member loan requests from Consumer Loan officers and other Credit Union lending staff through workflow. Evaluates and underwrites loan requests using judgment and discretion in making decisions to satisfy the members’ needs. Loans outside of guidelines or approval parameters are escalated to the Consumer Lending Manager, or VP of Consumer Lending with a recommendation as to the loan decision for each loan. Actively and consistently seek quality opportunities to increase loan volume.

    + Responsible for communicating loan decisions to Consumer Loan Officers and other Credit Union lending staff. Has the ability to discuss loan denials, loan alternatives, and rate computations in a clear, concise, and courteous manner. Routes loan applications with decision to appropriate staff for follow-up. Document adverse actions as needed and prepare systems to produce denial letters.

    + Responsible for loan quality in the loan portfolio. Reviews monthly loan maintenance reports. Assists Consumer Loan Manager in special projects as needed. Recommends alterations or revisions to department policies and procedures as needed.

    + Must be a motivated self-starter who measures self against standards of excellence. Demonstrates the ability to excel in a high stress environment and can meet goals and deadlines. Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws, and regulations, including but not limited to, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Federal Truth-in-Lending Act, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

     

    Knowledge and Skills

    Experience

    Financial-related seminars or special training desired. Two to three years’ experience in lending, customer service, teller area, member service, or new accounts in a business or financial institution.

     

    Education/Certifications/Licenses

     

    High school graduate or equivalent.

    Interpersonal Skills

    A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.

     

    Other Skills

     

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures. Ability to write instructions. Ability to respond to individual members and the public. Ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical form. Ability to analyze and make decisions. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must have a general knowledge of computer systems and be able to operate computer terminals for member transactions.
