    Job Title: Operating Engineer

    Job Description

    We are seeking a highly skilled Operating Engineer to oversee the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment at a prominent university. This role requires leadership in engineering and critical technical support to ensure operational excellence in a dynamic environment.

    Responsibilities

    + Oversee the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment.

    + Lead the engineering team in monitoring and maintaining refrigeration, water cooling, and air conditioning equipment.

    + Manage boilers, heating, ventilating, and hot water equipment, as well as pumps, valves, piping, and filters.

    + Review logs to ensure proper equipment operation and report any problems or malfunctions.

    + Perform preventive tasks and repairs, and oversee HVAC system repair and preventive maintenance.

    + Provide senior technical support and leadership on critical after-hour issues and emergency responses.

    + Manage inventory of tools and supplies and prepare and submit purchase order requests.

    + Oversee contractor activities within buildings and manage incidents, directing team responses.

    + Escalate daily field operational issues to account leadership.

    + Select, schedule, supervise, and direct contractors, monitoring and documenting their performance.

    + Respond to emergencies and service calls.

    + Lead technical safety and operational training programs.

    Essential Skills

    + 7 years of related experience as Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar roles.

    + Experience in people management.

    + Universal CFC EPA certification.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.

    + Strong customer service and communication skills.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Trade school, union training, military service, or college education preferred.

    + Experience managing facilities maintenance technicians.

    + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall.

    + Physical ability to climb, bend, kneel, lift, and drive.

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $36.00/hr.
