The University Registrar is a critical leader responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and security of student academic records and the efficient delivery of registration, scheduling, classroom management, grading, degree audit, and other academic services. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Registrar collaborates with university leadership to develop policies, enhance processes, and leverage technology to support institutional goals, compliance requirements, and student success.
This position requires a proactive, data-informed, and service-oriented leader with a deep understanding of the complexities of a large research institution and the evolving landscape of higher education.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Strategic Leadership & Collaboration:
+ Develop and execute a vision for the Office of the Registrar that aligns with the University's mission and strategic priorities.
+ Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and enforcement of academic policies and procedures.
+ Serve as an expert advisor to university leadership on matters related to academic records, registration, compliance, and technology.
+ Foster a service-oriented culture within the Office of the Registrar to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external constituents.
+ Collaborate with deans, academic departments, enrollment management, and other campus partners to support student success initiatives and institutional goals.
+ Represent the University in professional associations and networks to stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends in higher education.
+ Academic Records and Compliance:
+ Ensure the accuracy, confidentiality, and security of academic records in compliance with FERPA, accreditation standards, and other regulations.
+ Oversight of federal enrollment reporting requirements, degree requirements, adherence to credit hours and contact hours.
+ Creation of the Academic Planning Calendar and oversight of all Academic Calendars
+ Collaborate with other areas of the University to provide data and analysis to support decision-making.
+ Operational Excellence:
+ Manage and optimize core functions and infrastructure, including but not limited to registration, academic scheduling, room scheduling, degree auditing, transcript services, enrollment verification services, degree verification services, diploma services, and grading processes.
+ Partner with Information Technology Services to ensure the effective use of student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) and other 3rd party platforms to streamline operations and improve user experiences.
+ Lead the implementation of new technologies and online self-service platforms.
+ Staff Management and Development:
+ Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain a highly skilled team of professionals.
+ Promote professional development, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement within the office.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
This position reports to the Associate Vice President & Chief Enrollment Office within the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment. The person will be leading a team of 14, with direct supervision with the three associate registrars.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Master's degree in a related field with 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in a Registrar's Office or related area, OR a Bachelor's degree with 7-9 years of relevant, progressively responsible experience in a Registrar's Office or related area.
+ Deep knowledge of FERPA, accreditation standards, and compliance requirements.
+ Proficiency with student information systems and related technologies (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, or similar platforms).
+ Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in an R1 or similarly complex higher education institution.
+ Proven ability to lead major projects and implement technological solutions.
+ Familiarity with strategic enrollment management and data analytics

+ You must be employed at the University at Albany campus.
+ You must be in a State-funded UUP professional position (MC employees are not eligible).
+ You must have a permanent, term, or probationary appointment. Only temporary employees employed by UAlbany for three or more consecutive years can be considered eligible.

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: SL-5, College Registrar, $140,000-$150,000
