Description
Oversees and manages the college’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Consent Decree to ensure proper services and related equipment are delivered and/or provided for students. Serves as the 504 Coordinator for students.
Examples of Duties
+ Develops and implements policies and procedures to support students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), its amendments and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
+ Interprets disability documentation and develops accommodation plans and recommendations for students with disabilities as needed
+ Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Center for Accessibility (CFA) department
+ In collaboration with ITS and Purchasing, responsible for reviewing and approving the selection and purchase of all adaptive technology, software, materials, and equipment
+ Lead and supervise professional staff, ensuring effective delivery of services and resources
+ Develops, and facilitates faculty/staff professional development programming relative to the needs of students with disabilities
+ Provides information and responds to inquiries related to the needs of students with disabilities and services of the CFA on campus and in the community
+ Oversees the development and maintenance of records for caseload and CFA department
+ Consults with students to establish technology needs and assist students in the use of technology as needed
+ Assists in the evaluation and projection of adaptive technology needs based on new developments in the field of adaptive technology
+ Conducts research on access issues and needs, making recommendations for improvement and updating compliance protocols
+ Develops and implements procedures, policies and practices that ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate accommodations, services and support
+ Makes recommendations for hiring, schedules, supervises and evaluates notetakers and American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters
+ Maintains database and provides statistical information on the disabled student population
+ Monitors CFA budget
+ Submits reports on CFA area in a timely manner
+ Supervise the monitoring of the accessibility of the college website and other materials
+ Prepares reports and proposals as required
+ Researches grants and other development/external funding opportunities in support of the CFA
+ Participates in professional development opportunities related to providing services for students with disabilities
+ Provides expertise to colleagues in the support of the assurance of ADA compliance across the institution
+ Assists with decisions related to the procurement of academic materials
+ Oversees the remediation of materials to ensure they meet the latest compliance guidelines
+ Oversees the design of adaptive equipment areas
+ Provides academic advising for program participants as needed
+ Serves on college committees
+ Performs related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Education:
+ Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Special Education, Higher Education Administration/Leadership or related field
Experience:
+ 3-5 years of progressively responsible related experience working in a Higher Education environment
+ Experience working with students with disabilities
+ Supervisory experience
+ Experience with Ellucian Colleague management information systems preferred
Competencies and Skills:
+ Knowledge of ADA, its amendments and Section 504
+ Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
+ Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and understanding of students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds
+ Working knowledge of assistive hardware and software options

Terms of Employment:
+ This position requires flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends and duties at any Atlantic Cape location.
