    Primary Purpose

     

    Serve as a mentor to Latinx/a/o/e high school students during GANAS - a 5-day, 4-night summer symposium at the COCC Bend campus.

     

    Dates of hire: June 22 – 26, 2025 (And availability for program training days. Dates to be determined).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    + Supervise students throughout symposium making sure students are meeting expectations, monitoring behavior, encourage participation and develop leadership skills.

    + Participate in and/or lead all activities while providing guidance to students.

    + Assist Ganas Coordinators with all logistics including check in/check-out, material distributions, etc.

    + Serve as a mentor/leader to address/listen to student concerns.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    + Available for 2 training days and a 2-hour debrief meeting post-symposium.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Knowledge and skill in working effectively within Latino/x/e and other diverse communities.

    + Interact professionally with students, families, professors, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

    + Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.

    + Excellent communication skills and ability to manage conflicts within and/or between groups.

    + Experience with email, Internet, word-processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite products).

    + Demonstrated experience in leadership activities.

    + Strong skills in working effectively in a team environment.

    Ergonomic Requirements

    Work will be performed in and out of classroom settings. Mentors are required to stay on campus for the entire duration of the program. There will be optional but encouraged physical components of the symposium including but not limited to hiking, walking, climbing stairs, sitting, singing, dancing, etc. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Minimum Requirements

    + High School diploma or GED

    + Must be a current or former COCC student, and/or college student from other regions

    + Knowledge of working with diverse student population

    + Adherence to the COCC Drug Free Workplace Policy G-32-6

     

    All employees are required to successfully complete and pass a background screen, which includes a criminal history check.

    1. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

    2. Previous experience with AVANZA , Ganas, or other college preparatory programs at COCC and beyond.
