Description of Work Unit
The Department of Health and Exercise Science ( HES ) is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Faculty in the Department of Health and Exercise Science conduct innovative research in state of the art facilities, with an emphasis on basic, translational, and clinical applications in the area of chronic and age-related diseases. We are committed to our goal of producing nationally and internationally recognized research programs and graduates that are focused on helping people protect and improve their health and quality of life throughout the lifespan.
The Department has ~1100 undergraduate majors, 30-35 graduate students (about 60% PhD and 40% MS). Ten new faculty members (7 tenure-track) have joined the department since 2015. Research activities within the department are supported by the NIH , the American Heart Association, the National Cancer Institute, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and other federal, state, and industry sponsors.
The Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory is a center for interdisciplinary research, training and outreach that contains 17,000 sq. feet of dedicated, state of the art research space with a full-time physician on staff and an in-house compliance/regulatory/safety team (https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/hes-hpcrl/). Department faculty have academic or affiliate appointments in several schools and departments, including the Colorado School of Public Health, the Prevention Research Center, Biomedical Sciences, and Food Science and Human Nutrition. Faculty regularly collaborate with the University of Colorado Health-North and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Position Summary
The Relief Physician of the HPCRL will oversee our medical operations of the HPCRL in the absence of the Medical Director. The role involves supervising cardiovascular stress testing, placing arterial lines, and providing medical monitoring for studies involving exercise training, nutritional, pharmacological and device interventions. The inclusion of a board-certified physician in the Health and Exercise Science ( HES ) department allows us to maintain and grow our research enterprise, which is housed in our Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory ( HPCRL ) and is focused on clinically-oriented human studies.
Position Minimum Qualifications
Must have an MD or DO, be board certified in family medicine, sports medicine, cardiology, internal medicine or a related field, and with at least 3 years of experience in the field post-residency.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing research in the area of exercise physiology. Graduate degree in Health and Exercise Science or closely related field.
