**Job Description** :
A trained and licensed professional who is highly skilled and an expert in repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical systems safely and productively in a commercial environment. Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams and reads blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, flooring, and underground. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender. Pulls wiring through conduit assisted by a Helper. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Connects wiring to lighting fixtures, power equipment, and controls instruments using hand tools. Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, circuit-breaker panels, controllers, and indicators, fastening in place with screws or bolts using hand tools and power tools. Connects power cable to equipment, such as electrical instruments & motors, and installs ground leads. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter and meggers. Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. May be required to hold a license.
Job Performance Requirements:
Must be able to operate scissor lifts and manlifts. Must be able to furnish own transportation to and from job sites or staging areas. Must be able to read, write, and understand English. Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age. Must not use illegal drugs or excessive alcohol and must consent to a drug and alcohol test when required. Must be able to comply with safety standards. Must have own hand tools. Workers should be able to: rate information using personal judgement or standards that can be measured or checked; work within precise limits or standards of accuracy; perform a variety of duties, which may change often; use reason and logic; perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately; see details in objects or drawings; recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings; and picture flat objects as 3-dimensional objects. Physically, workers must be able to: work easily and skillfully with hands; climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds, and vessels; see well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors; reach for, handle, and grasp wires, conduit, and hand tools; bend, crouch, and work in small places; and lift and carry objects related to performing the job task. A valid Texas driver’s license is preferred but will accept a State or Government issued Identification card. Need a valid Texas Electrical State License, apprentice license, and or a NCEER. Osha 10 or 30 a plus but not required.
