This position is open to current Colorado residents only.
The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHH-FL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHH-FL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious, and persistent mental illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHH-FL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients, generally between the ages of 18-59. The hospital currently has 138 adult inpatient beds and over six treatment milieus that serve civil and forensic individuals. Medical services, occupational therapy, neuropsychological-rehabilitation services, and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

The Chief Medical Officer / Medical Staff Office coordinates providing various psychiatric and medical services to the patients at CMHHIFL. The work unit provides administrative, clinical, strategic, and operational leadership to ensure high-quality care is delivered throughout the hospital. In addition, the work unit is responsible for overseeing all medical staff, administrative, and fiscal matters, ensuring hospital staffing of psychiatric and medical physicians and providers, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Description of Job
This position makes recommendations and provides professional assistance to the Chief of Medical Staff in managing the organized medical staff. It is accountable for the management of the overall activities of the medical staff, including activities designed to ensure the provision of high-level professional performance by physicians and other medical staff members and to ensure CMHHIFL compliance with stringent external standards such as the Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data, and comprehending committee goals, policies, procedures, rules and regulations, etc. to conceptualize the complexity of issues and interpret circumstances in a variety of situations. The position ensures physicians and other licensed medical providers have the appropriate license, credentials, and privileges to practice in the hospital. It ensures compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and that the delineation of privileges and ongoing review and evaluation of clinicians' performance occur promptly and effectively. It interprets and implements the Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the medical staff by collecting, organizing, and interpreting data.
Other duties are as follows:
Management of Medical Staff Credentialing, Privileging, and Appointments:
+ Independently manage and supervise the credentialing/re-credentialing process, including new applicants, initial appointments, temporary appointments, and reappointments for all medical staff.
+ Investigate and verify references, licensure, training experience, education, certification, board appointments, National Practitioners Data Bank status, and other professional qualifications for applicants and reappointments.
+ Ensure privileged applications are processed appropriately, timely, and according to all regulatory requirements. Responsible for knowing and applying standards and regulations related to the credentialing process.
+ Develops and ensures internal processes to track license and credential expiration dates and renewal dates.
+ Make recommendations to the Credentials Committee regarding appointments, reappointments, and changes to medical staff status.
+ Meets with Joint Commission, CMS, 27-65, and CDPHE surveyors during review of medical staff credentialing files and speaks to credentialing and medical staff processes.
+ Facilitates the hiring of new contract and faculty physicians by obtaining necessary faculty appointment documentation.
+ Interprets, revises, and updates Medical Staff Bylaws in collaboration with medical staff leadership.
+ Develops credentialing and privileging plans and processes for both peer and ongoing record reviews, ensuring such reviews are completed in a timely manner, reports are generated for feedback, and credentialing files are updated with necessary data.
Medical Staff / Medical Executive Committee Support, Organization and Participation:
+ Maintains an in-depth understanding of all hospital policies and procedures that impact the medical staff, advising and offering strategic guidance to the Medical Staff and Medical Executive Committee (MEC) when various actions or changes are being considered.
+ Assists with policy and procedure development and revision.
+ Tracks and organizes reporting from all Medical Executive Committee (MEC) subcommittees, ensuring timely reporting to the MEC.
+ Organizes all Medical Executive Committee (MEC) functions by setting up and coordinating meetings, preparing materials and notices before meetings, and documenting proceedings.
+ Responsible for reviewing and analyzing applicable rules and regulations regarding the Medical Staff Bylaws to determine if and when appropriate action is necessary.
+ Assists with preparing the quarterly Governing Body Report.
Medical Student/Intern/Fellow Coordination:
+ Coordinate medical student rotations by working with medical schools to obtain contracts with the
Colorado Department of Human Services, ascertain CMHHIFL preceptors, work with school coordinators to schedule
rotations.
+ Orient students to CMHHIFL policies and procedures. Work with CDHS to ascertain the required
Background checks, fingerprints, and drug screens are completed for the students.
Medical Staff/Student Orientation Management:
+ Provides orientation and training to all new physicians on hospital policies, procedures, expectations, and Physician Practice Protocols.
+ Manages orientation for students, including informing them of applicable hospital procedures and preceptors' expectations.
Manage Internal and External Projects:
+ Manages internal and external projects assigned by the Chief Medical Officer/Chief of Psychiatry/Medical Staff Administrator.
+ Develops and maintains databases tracking progress and provides regular updates.
Purchasing:
+ This position obtains and maintains a purchasing card (P-Card) to purchase items for the medical office.
+ This position follows all policies and procedures relating to being an authorized P-Card user.
Program Support Coverage, Timekeeping/Other Duties as Assigned:
+ Help to support the Chief of Psychiatry, Medical Staff Office, pharmacy, and other programs under the Chief Medical Officer when needed.
+ Additionally, this position is a unit time manager for the KRONOS timekeeping system, actively tracks monthly and bi-monthly employee time, and processes appropriate paperwork for leave time per CDHS requirements.
+ Any other duties that may be needed for this position to complete to meet the mission and vision of the agency.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Experience Only:
+ Five (5) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
+ A combination of related education in Health Administration, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Certification preferred (CPCS or CPMSM).
+ A minimum of 3 years of comprehensive experience as a medical staff services professional within a hospital setting.
+ Must have working knowledge of Medical Staff credentialing, basic Medical Staff organizational structure, and regulatory agency requirements.
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
+ Knowledge of quality improvement processes.
+ PC skills, including Google Suite.
+ Problem-solving and analytical skills.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology.
+ Excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently, and ability to work under pressure.
+ Excellent phone and public relations skills, as well as the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of personnel.
+ Excellent attention to detail.
