    Description of Job

    General Statement Of Duties:

    Performs entry/developing-level Probation Officer responsibilities, including investigation, assessment, supervision, resource coordination, and monitoring of clients’ court-ordered for services. Completes required training courses and programs.

    Distinguishing Factors:

    This is a full-time (40hrs/week) Probation Officer position in our Eagle County Probation location that is located at:

    885 East Chambers Ave Eagle, CO 81631

    Essential Functions:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential functions listed below satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Frequency and percentage of time may vary based on assignment.

     

    Performs case management duties including documenting client related activities, reviewing client documents and court orders, and managing the client's e-file.

     

    Conducts face-to face appointments and interviews. Conducts on-going assessments to determine treatment needs and risk to the community. Develops appropriate case plans to guide supervision and ensure compliance with conditions imposed by the court.

     

    Assesses, prioritizes and responds to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office. De-escalates hostile/agitated clients and potentially violent situations.

     

    Completes a variety of reports to assess criminal behavior. Provides relevant information and sentencing options to court.

     

    Submits comprehensive compliance reports to the Court including revocation documents, taking care to protect confidential information. Updates the Court as needed and provides professional testimony.

     

    Informs staff, stakeholders, and public on Victim Rights Amendment. Responds to community feedback regarding clients and probationers in the community. Collects victim statements/positions for various court proceedings.

     

    Collaborates with other judicial districts and states on victim related concerns.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Supervisor Responsibilities:

    Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees. The work performed by majority of employees is semi complex.

    Interactions may result in decisions regarding implementation of policies. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations. Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions with the public requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions. Interactions have significant impact.

    Freedom to Act & Impact of Actions: Receives General Direction:

    Employee normally perform the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically. Impact of actions are significant.

    Knowledge & Skills:

    Full performance: Work requires comprehensive, practical knowledge of work processes. Incumbent can complete a broad range of work, sometimes complex, without frequent reference to others. Likely impact on organization is standard.

    Fiscal Responsibility:

    May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for functional area budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.

    Physical Effort Requirements:

    Medium Work- Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Work Environment:

    Disagreeable - Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.

    Work Location:

    Office or similar indoor environment; jail environment.

    Exposures:

    Individuals who are hostile or irate, individuals with known violent backgrounds; communicable diseases; bodily fluids.

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    Education and Experience Equivalency:

    Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services or related field.

    OR

    Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education.

    Work Related Experience:

    Less than 1 year of experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or similar field.

     

    Licenses and Certifications: None.
