    Title: AIR CONDITIONING EQ MECHANIC Location: United States-Virginia-Norfolk Job Number: 250001JX Job Summary: Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of large air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. This includes diagnosing malfunctions, replacing defective components, and ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely. The role involves working with various commercial and industrial refrigeration and HVAC equipment, including walk-in coolers/freezers, split systems, and dehumidifiers. Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnose and locate system malfunctions. Disassemble, repair, replace, and/or adjust thermostats, pressure stats, humidistats, relays, switches, and other automatic control devices. Repair and service compressors, evaporators, condensers, and receivers. Repack valves and replace electric motors, belts, and pulleys. Lubricate moving parts and replace or clean filters. Bleed systems and replace refrigerants. Test for leaks and excessive load conditions. Recondition, modify, and fabricate parts as needed. Perform full-scope work on the installation, repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of: Industrial and domestic reach-in/walk-in refrigerators Split HVAC systems Cold storage and cold room equipment Freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, and related systems Install prefabricated walk-in refrigerator and freezer units. Physical Effort: Frequently lifts and sets up equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses hoists, holders, and pulleys to remove and install large units like compressors and chillers. Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms to reach overhead or hard-to-access system components. Requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling for extended periods. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and occasionally outdoors, often in confined or awkward spaces. Environments may be dirty, greasy, or involve extreme temperatures, especially in cold storage areas. Subject to potential injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock. Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Experience Requirements General Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform a full range of duties related to the installation and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems . Substitution of Education for Experience: One year of high school education may be substituted for three (3) months of general experience. A High School Diploma or GED may substitute for one (1) year of general experience. Specialized Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of specialized experience is required. This experience must demonstrate the ability to perform a full range of work in the following areas: Installation, repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of: Industrial and domestic reach-in and walk-in refrigerators Split HVAC systems Prefabricated walk-in refrigerator and freezer units Cold storage and cold room equipment Freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers, air conditioning units, and related systems Certification Requirement: Current Universal Technician Certification is required in accordance with EPA regulations.
