Job Summary
In a fast-emerging honors environment, the Director of Honors Academic Success identifies and leads a team that works in an innovative and strategic way to push forward ideas, innovation, execution and culture, driving Old Dominion University honors education to new heights using experiential learning, appreciative advising, and professional mentorship. The director is responsible for identifying, developing and executing the most effective strategies to reach and connect with the University’s key target audiences. The director serves as the honors college point of contact for student matriculation through honors curriculum, creation and marketing of co-curricular honors activities, and university wide partnerships that enhance Honors Students’ academic success (i.e. campus advisors, high impact practices committees, and various other university-wide collaborations). This position supervises a team of graduate and professional honors advisors and mentors, and co-curricular facilitators, and leads professional mentoring efforts of PHC faculty fellows.
The chief objective of this position is to develop, administer, and assess the Perry Honors College’s efforts in undergraduate advising, recruiting and academic support using the Appreciative Advising Framework.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in a related field required.
+ Considerable knowledge of the best practices in university advising.
+ Considerable knowledge of and ability to implement and assess advising and academic support functions according to standards established nationally (e.g. CAS standards, NACADA and Appreciative Advising “best practices”) and at ODU .
+ Considerable knowledge of recent scholarship in college student development.
+ Considerable knowledge of academic success strategies.
+ Ability to develop and track academic success plans for students in academic difficulty.
+ Ability to communicate with students in a nonthreatening and efficient manner.
+ Ability to provide positive and responsive customer service to internal and external users reflecting Old Dominion’s mission and values.
+ Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues through courteous, constructive, and professional interaction.
+ Ability to listen to and anticipate customer needs, provide clear explanations, respond quickly; take initiative to assist internal and external customers; and observe confidentiality.
+ Considerable experience working in a university environment required.
Preferred Qualifications
+ NCC (Nationally Certified Counselor) certification preferred.
+ Demonstrated experience working in advising/counseling in a university setting preferred.
+ Master’s degree with emphasis in College Counseling and/or experience advising in an honors college
