Summary Who May Apply: This announcement is open to all U.S. Citizens. Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership has determined that telework serves a compelling DoD need. Responsibilities Responsible for installing, operating, testing, troubleshooting, overhauling, repairing, modifying and reprogramming the highly complex centralized environmental monitoring and control systems (EMCS). Performs a wide range of support functions including warehousing activities, carpentry and painting projects and electrical support. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, replaces and evaluates the system and subsystems. Responsible for lighting control systems, alarms systems, that use special purpose, dedicated computers to store operating parameters and initiate adjustments to these systems throughout DFAS-Limestone. Installs, operates, adjusts, modifies and programs the lighting controls system to optimize efficiency and energy savings, and maintain comfortable, safe and productive work areas. Maintains the alarms systems to perform cross communication between multiple subsystems enabling proper EMCS and mechanical systems equipment responses to fire and/or security alarm activations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Qualifications: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying must be demonstrated through your ability to do the work of a ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC. Examples of Qualifying Experience Include: Determining requirements for electronic repair; selecting electronic testing equipment to isolate problems; applying knowledge of electronic theory and design to diagnose problems with electronic equipment; and using hand and power tools to install electronic systems. Physical Effort: Frequently lift, carry or otherwise handle items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally handle items greater than 18 kilograms. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is required. Occasionally climbing and working in high places may be required. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience. Education Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this position. Additional Information Moving expenses WILL NOT be paid. This position IS covered by a bargaining unit. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Travel requirement is 1-24%. Pay for first time hires to the Federal Government will typically be set at step 1 salary range for their respective grade level. The Security Designation will vary and dependent upon position and may require a secret clearance or higher.
