    Job Summary

    The Department of Psychology is seeking an energetic and experienced professional to join the Student Administration team. The individual will report to the Undergraduate Program Manager. There is extensive contact with students, faculty, and student services staff administrators.

    Responsibilities*

    The responsibilities of this position include academic advising and student service support to undergraduate students at all phases of their academic careers, with special attention for our academically at-risk populations. Program coordination and undergraduate event planning are primary roles for this position.

     

    Provide excellent major advising and support to all prospective and declared undergraduates and to target populations. This position will specifically coordinate advising, events, and communication for targeted populations within our majors that are most academically at-risk (CSP, First Generation, Transfer Students, Student-Veterans, those with low gpa, etc.). Outreach and programming for target populations will include summer events visiting campus, specific orientations for transfer students and student-veterans, and specialized advising for CSP students.

     

    Advising includes review and informed decision-making around requests for exceptions to the major and approval of transfer courses, long term course planning, registration questions, graduation procedures, and reviewing student transcripts to identify strengths as well as negative academic trends in student performance. Advisors demonstrate an in depth knowledge of psychology courses and faculty research interests to articulate and discuss the value of individual courses and curriculum paths within psychology; assist students in understanding and reflecting on the transferability of their academic coursework as they explore possible next steps, and work with them to articulate the benefits of their liberal arts academic preparation to multiple audiences, including prospective employers and admissions committees in graduate programs and professional schools. They also provide appropriate referrals for students to other campus units if assistance is needed beyond advising for the major. Advisors continually explore the ways in which the academic advising profession is evolving and determine innovations that will contribute to working in a premier student services office.

    Other Support

    Provide high quality academic support service to faculty, staff, and other visitors. Answer phones, respond to e-mail and in-person inquiries about programs, courses, and services in a timely manner. Process electronic overrides and major declarations. Coordinate course evaluation process, assist with LSA Course Guide maintenance, maintain department student handbook on the intranet portal. This position assists in planning and hosting major events coordinated by the office including the commencement ceremony and various outreach programs that may include coordination with alumni, and graduate school Series. Assist with other projects assigned such as implementing new program applications and data warehouse tools for the undergraduate program, running reports and tracking trends in student enrollment, event attendance, graduation rates, etc.

     

    Demonstrate the ability to work in a cross-trained office that places a high value on student success, excellent customer service, team orientation, intentional planning, and innovation; demonstrate willingness and ability to experiment in new areas to contribute to continuous office improvement of data management and delivery of reports, as well as process improvements; demonstrate an appreciation of and sensitivity to cultural differences and ensure all events and programs are delivered in a way that is accessible and inclusive.

    Required Qualifications*

    Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education/work experience) in education, psychology, or related field which includes the broad-based study of student development, social identity, student learning, and basic statistics to complement relevant skill sets.

    Desired Qualifications*

    A master's degree in psychology, education, or related social science. Two years of experience advising students and engaging in group process and programming outreach events. Two years of presentation experience in a college setting. Successful history of working in a team setting and offering exemplary customer service. Ability to work independently and manage several tasks at once in a high-traffic, fast-paced and shifting setting. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and database software applications. Experience with student records modules of M-Pathways. Familiarity with LS&A and University student administration procedures and policies.

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Additional Information

     

    The salary range for this position is $47,000 to $58,500, please note a higher salary may be offered to highly qualified candidates.

     

    This position is a hybrid position with the expectation of 3 days on campus and the possibility of 2 remote days.
