    Job Summary

    The laboratory of Dr. Ben Dantzer in the Department of Psychology seeks to hire a full-time Research Technician Associate. The lab uses the methods of endocrinology, physiology, and behavior to examine how animals adapt to new environments. This position will play an integral role in the establishment and functioning of the lab by fulfilling research, management, and supervisory responsibilities.

     

    This would be an excellent position for a recent graduate seeking to gain additional research experience prior to graduate school. Primary research duties include extraction of hormones from samples and running enzyme/radio-immunoassays to measure hormones, running statistical analyses on existing datasets using R software, and writing manuscripts. In addition, the candidate would gain valuable experience in lab management, research administration, and lab tech supervision.

    Responsibilities*

    Lab management tasks

    + Ordering supplies

    + Running and maintaining equipment

    + Organizing materials and resources

    + Managing databases

    + Acting as a liaison between Dr. Dantzer and relevant personnel for timely communication

    Primary research tasks

    + Extraction of hormones from samples and running enzyme/radio-immunoassays to measure hormones

    + Running statistical analyses on existing datasets using R software

    + Writing manuscripts

    Research administration tasks

    + Coordinating field and lab research within the Dantzer laboratory

    Supervisory tasks

    + Training Assistants in Research (temporary positions)

    + Overseeing and supporting Assistants in Research assignments (e.g., data collection, coding, and entry)

    + Temporarily assisting graduate students in field data collection locally or in the Yukon, Canada.

    Required Qualifications*

    + High school diploma or Associate's degree

    + At least 1 year of research experience

    + Familiarity with R and database management

    + Excellent organizational, problem-solving, writing, and computing skills

    Desired Qualifications*

    + BS or BSc in related field

    + Basic laboratory skills, including running enzyme-immunoassays, extraction of DNA from samples and other molecular genetics experience

    + Cultural competence and excellent interpersonal skills

    + Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

    + Attentive to details and able to manage simultaneous projects

     

    Modes of Work

     

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Additional Information

    This is a 12-month term-limited position with the possibility of renewal. The anticipated start date is June 2025.
