    Job Description

    The Legal unit handles all relevant legal issues in the following areas of the law: CPLR Article 78 proceedings, pensions and benefits, Employment Law, Family Law (Domestic Relations Orders, Income Execution Orders, Temporary Restraining orders), Freedom of Information Law, Open Meetings Law, and the Trust and Estates Law (Powers of Attorney, Letters Testamentary, Spousal Right of Inheritance).

     

    Under the supervision of the General Counsel, the Agency Attorney will receive training and practical experience in the legal operations of the Fund. Specifically, the Agency Attorney is responsible for legal research, verifying pleadings, facilitating the implantation of court orders, and office administration.

    Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    - Conduct legal research;

     

    - Draft internal memoranda to various members of the executive staff;

     

    - Communicate, in writing and verbally, with members and attorneys; scan and maintain related files;

     

    - Review legal documents including proposed and certified Domestic Relations Orders, support enforcement orders, Powers of Attorney, Letters of Administration and Letters Testamentary;

     

    - Assist with the preparation of files and verification of pleadings in Article 78 proceedings;

     

    - Respond to subpoenas;

     

    - Perform other special projects as requested by Unit Supervisor.

     

    This title is eligible for enrollment in the Civil Service Bar Association, a union for City attorneys. For more information, please consult their website at www.csbanyc.org.

    NOTE: This is a full-time on-site position. The incumbent will be required to report to the office on a regular basis.

    Qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
