LICENSING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, Technology Licensing Office, responsible for the commercialization of MIT’s intellectual property (IP) portfolio arising from research and other activities; manages a small portfolio of MIT’s IP including technology evaluation, marketing, outreach to faculty and industry, business deal term creation, and distribution of IP through licensing and other commercialization agreements; lead case manager for technologies allocated to their portfolio; marketing, IP and commercialization strategies for individual cases and portfolios; collaborating with TLO staff throughout the lifecycle of the technology; trains junior licensing team staff in case triage, case management and post execution compliance activities.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in a scientific, technical or business field; three years’ direct experience in university technology transfer, federal lab or FFRDC involving management of an IP portfolio including licensing, agreement management, and developing IP strategies, marketing and commercialization plans; strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to interact with various stakeholders; organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects; excellent problem-solving skills, judgement and decision-making; interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach; ability to work under supervision and to exercise good judgment, prioritization and discretion; ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, matrix like environment. PREFERRED: master’s degree in business administration or professional education; some experience developing deal terms and negotiating license agreements; demonstrated sensitivity to stakeholders in a complex academic environment; demonstrated business acumen, general understanding of issues arising at the intersection of US Government and academia; prior MIT experience.
