POSITION SUMMARY :
The Temporary Controller is a member of the management team and supports the Chief Financial Officer with all aspects of the accounting department through the preparation of financial statements and the review of all accounting transactions. The Temporary Controller oversees the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll. This role will actively assist with bi-weekly payroll processing to ensure all Ambassadors are paid on-time and correctly. This is a temporary position covering for the Assistant Controller while on leave, with the possible opportunity for it to become permanent. Our goal for starting this position is June 30th, and we anticipate it will be approximately 7 months in duration.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
+ Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
+ Direct supervision of all Accounting Ambassadors, including hiring, training, scheduling, and annual evaluations.
+ Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively at a high level with a highly efficient team.
+ Manage club benchmarking software and recommend benchmarks used to measure the company’s performance.
+ Assist with producing the annual budget book.
+ Assist CFO with preparing timely monthly financial statements including any required supporting schedules or balance sheet accounts.
+ Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual audit for Martis Camp Club, Martis Camp Club Association, and Martis Camp Foundation.
+ Recommend and implement software. Support and administer the implementation of a new AP automation system.
+ Review/audit club invoices for accuracy and compare to budget.
+ Ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices.
+ Maintain fixed asset register and post monthly depreciation.
+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
+ Maintain high standards , trust, and transparency.
+ Any other duties as needed to improve safety and assist fellow Ambassadors in fulfilling Martis Camp’s mission, vision, and core values.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS :
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Finance or Accounting or minimum of 5 years of experience in roles that demonstrate increasing responsibility in accounting positions.
+ Solid knowledge of GAAP and regulations.
+ Working knowledge of accounting and financial processes.
+ Expert level experience with Microsoft Excel.
+ Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Well organized with a high level of attention to detail.
+ Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
+ Maintain strict confidentiality of information and records.
+ Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES :
+ Knowledge of/experience with Jonas Club Management software preferred.
+ Private club experience preferred.
+ Minimum of 5 years of related experience in similarly situated companies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
+ Sitting: Ability to sit for prolonged periods (e.g., 6 to 8 hours per workday).
+ Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
+ Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer screens for extended periods and read printed materials.
+ Hearing and Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via video conferencing tools.
+ Walking/Standing: Occasionally required to stand or walk short distances (e.g., to a printer, meeting room, or break area).
+ Lifting/Carrying: Ability to occasionally lift or carry office supplies, packages, or documents weighing up to 20 pounds.
+ Reaching/Bending: Occasional reaching, stooping, or bending to retrieve files or access equipment.
+ Environmental Conditions: Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment. Low exposure to loud noise or environmental hazards.
+ Screen Time: Comfortable with extended use of computers and other digital devices.
+ Mobility: Ability to move between floors or buildings if required (e.g., via stairs or elevator).
Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000 annually
The salary range for this position is set with the intention to attract candidates with diverse experience levels and responsibilities within the role.
