Summary This position is located in NTSB's Office of Highway Safety, Report Development Division. The incumbent will serve as a Highway Accident Investigator with primary responsibility for the development and management of highway investigation reports for Board's consideration. Responsibilities As a Highway Accident Investigator, GS-1801-14, you will perform the following major duties: Write and lead the development of highway crash investigation reports in collaboration with investigative teams. Lead special projects such as investigative hearings, symposiums, and responses to external requests (e.g., public inquiries, notices of proposed rulemakings). Serve as a Group Chairperson leading the investigation of safety issues in areas of technical expertise (human factors, vehicle factors, motor carrier factors, highway factors or survival factors). Research, review, and study existing and proposed highway transportation Federal legislation, regulations, national industry standards, guidelines or specifications established by government agencies and technical societies/associations pertaining to highway transportation safety. Develop and make formal presentations to national and local groups to exchange technical information. Serve as Duty Officer. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For GS-14: You MUST have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Specialized experience is defined as: Experience applying at least one highway investigative area (human factors, motor carrier factors, vehicle factors, highway factors, or survival factors) while conducting highway crash investigations or highway safety research; writing reports of highway crash investigations or transportation safety research, including analyzing factual data as well as identifying relevant conclusions and safety recommendations; experience providing formal oral presentations about the results of crash investigations or transportation safety research to diverse audiences, including at a state or national level; and experience independently planning and managing the implementation of projects such as research studies, public hearings, or technical meetings.
