The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join WSP’s Critical & Emerging Technology within the national Transit & Rail practice. The selected candidate will play a critical role in expanding a new service offering within one of the world’s leading engineering and design firms that will empower our transportation clients to become Future Ready.
WSP is currently initiating a search for an experienced **Autonomous Fleet Director** , for our **New York** or **New Jersey office** . We are recruiting highly motivated consultants with an entrepreneurial spirit, who thrive on multidisciplinary teams. Specifically, the successful candidate will have hands-on experience designing, building, and testing Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Automated Driving Systems (ADS). An ideal candidate will combine strong client-facing skills and the ability to master new technical concepts quickly to deliver high quality products. The successful candidate must have several years of hands-on experience with automated fleet planning, preparation, and deployments.
This position will require strong collaboration and leadership with dynamic, cross-functional teams across the country to meet tight deadlines. You will be expected to provide strategic, technical, and operational support across all phases of autonomous fleet planning and deployments: from winning the first projects to working closely with a portfolio of clients to reap the safety, financial, and operational benefits related to automated and electric fleets. You will play a leading role in defining the business case of fleet automation for our global market share.
The Autonomous Fleet Director offers substantial opportunities for professional growth in an emerging market. You will work directly with industry thought leaders in areas such as zero emissions, autonomous vehicles, transit technology systems, infrastructure asset management, and transit & rail to launch highly visible transit technology projects across North America.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Proactively plan, develop, and execute transportation-related projects and serve as a subject matter expert.
+ Utilize deep expertise in fleet automation technologies (ADAS and ADS) to develop functional and technical requirements.
+ Write and create various digital documentation including detailed process documentation, test case matrices, test plans, concept of operations, and deployment plans.
+ Develop use cases by identifying user goals, defining system functionality, and establishing demonstrable benefits.
+ Establish relationships with fleet OEMs, vendors, and manufacturers of all sizes.
+ Manage and evaluate autonomous fleet data performance through data visualization platforms such as Ouster Studio.
+ Help build and expand existing practice to include service offerings to our clients such as verification and validation of ADAS/ADS vehicles or sensor suites.
+ The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience, knowledge, and willingness to install, test, and maintain the vehicle, sensors, and on-board compute systems.
+ Speak to large groups, and when the opportunity arises, take charge and lead technical presentations or Q and A sessions with ease.
+ Depending on finalization of scope, the selected candidate may have to report onsite 3-4 days per week on client sites in the Northeast.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree with a major in business, economics, finance, transportation planning, engineering, computer science, or related field.
+ 12 years minimum of professional experience and at least 3-5 years of experience supporting fleet technology deployments.
+ The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate past results in ADAS/ADS deployments and other client-facing project work.
+ Firm understanding of ADAS and ADS market, costs, and challenges such as sensor degradation and proprietary algorithms.
+ High familiarity with Federal legislation that impacts and dictates ADAS and ADS deployments such as NHTSA, FMCSA, and FCC (Connected Vehicle Technologies).
+ Passion for emerging fleet technology and ability to think creatively to solve complex problems.
+ Ability to work independently and deliver high quality work with minimal supervision.
+ Adept at managing multiple responsibilities and teams across projects and geographies.
+ Excellent writing and presentation skills to clearly explain complicated technical subjects to non-technical audiences.
+ The selected candidate will have readily available materials proving their understanding of the marketplace and industry presence.
+ High attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills.
+ Skilled at influencing without an authoritative demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Demonstrated success in management consulting or advisory roles.
+ Long-standing experience in the autonomous transportation sector.
+ Understanding of system requirements process to enable tracking and certifying client requirements.
+ Familiarity with automation sensor hardware and software kits and their applications.
+ Experience in entrepreneurial environments, with small teams, tight deadlines, and a growth mindset.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $210,000 - $275,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
