    Job Description:

    This position leads the day to day operations of a hospital pharmacy. As the pharmacist in charge, this position serves as the key leader responsible for pharmacy operations and medication management in a non-twenty-four-hour hospital pharmacy. The director may lead a team of pharmacists and technicians and be assigned additional facility leadership responsibilities. Additionally, the director ensures safety of patients while taking responsibility for the strategic direction of facility level pharmacy operations, important interdisciplinary care team relationships, and the quality of all medication therapy provided. This leader participates in system-wide and facility initiatives and goals. The director may be asked to represent Pharmacy Services as a member or leader of facility/system teams to promote best in class operations and patient care. The pharmacy director is accountable to Pharmacy Services and facility leaders in a matrix leadership environment. The pharmacy director is responsible for budgeting and the fiscal responsibility of the hospital pharmacy. Additionally, this role ensures the pharmacy remains continually compliant with current law, regulations, and requirements established by regulatory bodies.

     

    **This position qualifies for a $10,000 sign on bonus.**

    A successful director will create a culture of accountability and efficient pharmacy services while providing leadership consistent with Intermountain Healthcare mission and values. With vision being placed on ways to achieve extraordinary care the pharmacy director is expected to help Intermountain Healthcare and Pharmacy Services focus on safety, quality, patient experience, equity, access, stewardship, and engaged caregivers.

    Other job essentials include:

    **Leadership** : Establishes and promotes a culture of accountably consistent with Intermountain Leadership Competencies. Is responsible for all aspects of medication management in the facility.

    **Continuous Improvement and Change Management** : Creates and sustains a culture of continuous improvement. The pharmacy leader will have experience leading rapid continuous improvement and change management process, including leading caregivers and integrating new tools and sources of information. Works with pharmacy leadership to identify and implement new technologies and automation to improve processes, patient experience, caregiver effectiveness and reduce expenses. Effectively leads changes and related caregiver transitions through effective leadership and communication.

    **Operational Effectiveness** : Is able to effectively manage both capital and operational budgets, and financial stewardship of the pharmacy. Takes a leadership role in local and system business development strategies. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accepted best practices. Researches, analyzes and synthesizes data to make clinical and operational recommendations.

    **Clinical Excellence:** It is expected that the pharmacy director will demonstrates a strong pharmacotherapy knowledgebase and have strong research skills. Consistently incorporates local, system, and accepted national clinical best practices and medication safety best practices into operations.

    **Caregiver Engagement** : Establishes a culture of engagement at the team and individual level. Leads staff in identifying, developing, and implementing action plans that improve engagement. Effectively communicates structure, goals, initiatives, activities, successes, and failures to caregivers. Actively promotes participation in professional and personal development.

    **Patient Engagement** : Is responsible for pharmacy involvement in providing a positive patient experience. Inspires staff members to improve service in all areas of the patient/customer experience. Identifies and addresses all deficiencies and is accountable to work closely with nursing and other clinical colleagues to improve patient service scores.

    **Physician Engagement** : Engages physicians to support formulary and medication use initiatives. Partners with physicians to optimize patient care. Ensures compliance with pharmacy related medical staff regulations.

    **Community Stewardship** : Supports staff participation in community service and professional organizations. Supports student and residency programs.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Pharm D or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).

    + State license, in facility location, to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances

    Preferred Qualifications

    + BLS, PALS, ACLS CPR Certifications

    + Master's degree in one of the following fields: MBA, MPH, MHA, or MS in pharmacy from an accredited institution.

    + Pharmacy residency, other post-graduate training, and/or board certification.

    + Leadership experience in a hospital setting

    + Budget management experience

    Ability to read labels, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to access customer needs. Requires the ability to verbally communicate and understand spoken information, needs and issues quickly and accurately.

     

    Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to also include the frequent use of computers for typing and accessing needed information.

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

     

    $62.38 - $91.66
