About Global Real Estate & Workplace Experience (GREWE)
Global Real Estate and Workplace Experience (GREWE) is a global team at American Express (Amex) responsible for the full lifecycle of planning, execution, and operations of Amex real estate. GREWE supports over 75,000 Amex colleagues and contractors in over eight million square feet of property located in 59 countries. Our real estate portfolio consists of large full-service campuses, office buildings, sales offices, airport lounges and data centers. The global GREWE team is comprised of ~100 Amex full time staff that leverage ~5,000 contractors and is part of the broader Global Servicing Group organization which delivers shared business services to colleagues across the enterprise. Global Leadership and Governance Responsibilities

This position is accountable for ensuring global compliance with AMEX Financial Procedures and the implementation of GREWE project controls tools, guidelines and industry leading practices to support major capital projects.
The Director of Project Controls is a strategic leadership role responsible for the governance, management, and performance of project controls across large and complex capital projects, typically exceeding $500M in total capital cost. This role oversees cost management, schedule integration, and risk control functions to ensure robust delivery performance, financial accountability, and decision-making support. The Director will lead the development and implementation of project controls standards, cost risk assessments, schedule risk assessments, change management protocols, and integrated reporting systems to inform stakeholders from project inception through closeout.
The candidate will have strong leadership experience with proficiency in collaborating across large complex project teams and organizations including senior leaders. Project experience driving progress and controls on major capital projects.

+ Cost Estimates and Budgets (Class 5 through Class 1)
+ Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and Schedule Status Reports
+ Quantitative Risk Assessment Reports (CRA/SRA)
+ Monthly Cost and Schedule Performance Reports
+ Forecast-at-Completion (FAC) and Estimate-to-Complete (ETC) updates
+ Change Logs and Trend Registers
+ Stage-Gate Review Packages and Audit Compliance Documentation
+ Leads data collection and key processed supporting both Internal & External Benchmarking
+ Ensures all Project Controls Procedures and Guidelines are in alignment with AMEX requirements.
Executive Engagements
This role will have frequent interaction with the SVP of GREWE and the President of Enterprise Shared Services, and on occasion with other AXP executive committee members. This leader will demonstrate the ability to interact with these senior executives with ease, and also dive deep into details when necessary, interacting with project team members at all levels. The role is expected to frequently present to the GREWE SVP.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Develop, implement, and continuously improve project controls frameworks, policies, procedures, tools, and standards.
+ Ensure alignment with corporate governance and capital investment frameworks.
+ Lead the integration of project controls into project lifecycle stages (e.g., FEL, design, procurement, construction).
+ Champion the implementation of digital tools and analytics in project controls.
+ Lead the development and validation of project cost estimates, cash flows, and budgets.
+ Oversee ongoing cost control, forecasting, variance analysis, and earned value metrics.
+ Direct the establishment of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and cost breakdowns.
+ Coordinate with Finance to ensure alignment with accounting principles (e.g., accruals, capitalization, asset register alignment).
+ Oversee development, integration, and maintenance of master schedules for all project phases.
+ Ensure schedule risk analyses are performed at key project milestones.
+ Monitor critical path, float, milestones, and provide early warnings of schedule deviations.
+ Validate contractor and vendor schedules and ensure integration into the overall master schedule.
+ Lead project-level cost risk assessments (CRA) and schedule risk assessments (SRA).
+ Establish and manage quantitative risk models in collaboration with risk specialists and stakeholders.
+ Ensure risks, mitigations, and opportunities are integrated into cost and schedule forecasts.
+ Facilitate risk governance reporting to executive committees and support the management of the Project RAIDD log and mitigations.
+ Lead the development and implementation of integrated change control procedures.
+ Ensure all scope, cost, and schedule changes are tracked, reviewed, and approved according to governance.
+ Assess impacts of changes on project performance baselines and provide strategic insights to decision-maker
+ Lead and mentor a team of cost engineers, schedulers, risk analysts, and controls specialists.
+ Foster cross-functional collaboration with engineering, procurement, construction, finance, and commercial teams.
+ Provide training and development programs to improve organizational maturity in project controls.
Minimum Requirements:
+ 15 years of experience in project controls on large-scale ($500M ) capital projects; at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.
+ Demonstrated experience in developing and leading governance processes for major capital projects.
+ Strong background in financial modeling, budgeting, and understanding of IFRS/GAAP.
+ Exceptional organizational skills and ability to focus on details while not losing sight of the big picture
+ Ability to easily partner with and influence senior leaders across the AXP organization
+ University/ Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Engineering or Construction Management
+ Strong team player, ability to take direction and remain flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ PMP, CCP, or PSP certifications
+ Construction Management, Finance background
+ Proficiency in project controls systems (e.g., Primavera P6, SAP, Oracle). Expertise in Monte Carlo simulation and probabilistic risk analysis tools (e.g., @Risk, Safran Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis).
Qualifications
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
