SUMMARY: This position is assigned to Public Safety Communications (PSC), a bureau functioning within the Idaho Military Division. The purpose of this position is to perform and lead work to install, operate, program, and maintain sophisticated electronic telecommunications equipment, which includes elements of the land mobile radio systems, radio repeaters, base stations, mobile and portable radios, emergency vehicle configurations, dispatch console systems, telephone systems, data systems, speed monitoring equipment, and networking and computer systems.

MILITARY DIVISION MANDATORY QUESTIONS:

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
(1) Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted state issued driver’s license (from any state). Provide your driver’s license number, issuing state, license expiration date, and the full name specified on the license. (Do not provide a copy of your driver’s license.)
(2) Travel is required for training and job performance. Must be willing to travel by all modes of transportation and stay at destinations for moderate to extended periods.
(3) Must have, or be eligible to obtain, and maintain a favorable NACI/T1 Federal Background Investigation. If a selected candidate does not have a current favorable NACI/T1, as a condition of employment he/she must submit to the investigation process immediately upon hire/appointment.
(4) Must be physically able to walk, hike, and travel across remote areas, at elevations up to 10,000 feet; work on ladders, raised work platforms, or towers up to 50 feet high, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Must have 24 months of specialized experience performing related duties as specified in the announcement.
(1) Knowledge of electronic and electrical wiring diagrams, wiring principles, system schematics, and the operation, maintenance, and calibration of complex testing equipment sufficient to install, remove, troubleshoot, and test radio equipment and speed testing equipment.
(2) Knowledge of standard computer programs, including but not limited to the Microsoft suite, manufacturers’ diagnostic and troubleshooting products, and a wide variety of special use programming and testing software.
(3) Knowledge of safety practices related to maintenance shop activities, radio frequency systems, general electronic equipment, general electrical applications, off-road/all-terrain vehicle operations (wheels, tracks, and skis), forklifts or hand-trucks, and the ability to recognize associated hazards.
(4) Knowledge and experience in the use of four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, electrical hand tools, ladders and other elevated work platforms, and trailering and towing in all types of conditions.
(5) Knowledge of and skill in carrying out basic leader duties which include but are not limited to counseling, training, coaching, developing and enforcing performance standards, assigning work, managing workflow, reviewing work, managing production schedules, maintaining team culture and environment, and receiving general guidance on projects.
