    Position Summary/Description:

    The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a licensed clinical social worker ( LCSW ) or or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor ( LCMHC ) to join the Comprehensive Cancer Support Program ( CCSP ) as a member of an inter-disciplinary team that comprises the Psycho-oncology Service at the NC Basnight Cancer Hospital ( NCCH ). This is a 100% FTE , fixed-term clinical instructor position.

     

    The major expectation for this position will include the ongoing evaluation and counseling/mental health treatment for individuals with cancer and their families who are treated at the NC Cancer Hospital. Specific duties will include crisis intervention and providing psychosocial support (including mental health assessment, referral management, and direct counseling) in the NC Cancer Hospital through the CCSP Psycho-oncology Clinical Service. This position will involve consultation to and collaboration with oncologists, nurses, mental health clinicians, and other cancer-related clinicians and staff members. The clinical work associated with this position with be provided in the outpatient setting. This position will also involve developing and implementing strategies to diversify UNC’s psycho-oncology and supportive care workforce and contributing to initiatives to ensure the CCSP meets the diverse psychosocial needs of patients cared for at the NCCH .

     

    We are looking for candidates who have clinical experience and competence evaluating and managing patients and family members who present with a wide variety of psychosocial and/or coping challenges in the oncology setting including the following: anxiety and panic disorder; depression; suicidal ideation and behavior; substance abuse; grief and bereavement; consequences of trauma; and personality disorders. Additionally, the successful candidate will be asked to participate in CCSP -related quality improvement initiatives and educational programs.
