Description

We are looking for an interim, experienced Director of Finance to oversee and manage the financial operations of a municipal organization in the New Haven, Connecticut area. This long-term contract position requires a highly skilled individual to lead financial reporting, budgeting, and risk management activities, ensuring compliance and financial stability. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic approach to managing the city's financial health while collaborating with department managers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and direct the Finance Department’s daily operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all financial processes.

• Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial reports, providing insights and recommendations to support decision-making.

• Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the annual budget, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

• Supervise cash management activities, maintaining liquidity and financial stability for the municipality.

• Administer risk management programs, identifying and mitigating potential financial risks.

• Coordinate internal and external auditing processes, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

• Oversee tax collection efforts, ensuring accurate and efficient revenue generation.

• Collaborate with department managers to streamline financial processes and improve operational efficiency.

• Experience with Munis a must and ADP or Blackbaud Altru are a nice to have.

• Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings.

Requirements

• Proven experience in accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting within a municipal or governmental setting.

• Strong knowledge of cash management and auditing practices.

• Proficiency in financial software systems, including Munis

• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights.

• Experience in managing risk and implementing effective risk management strategies.

• Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage and collaborate with diverse teams.

• Familiarity with tax collection processes and revenue management.

• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities to handle complex financial operations.
