    The Geotechnical Engineering Unit collects and analyzes subsurface information and provides geotechnical engineering designs and recommendations for roadways and structures.     The Geotechnical Engineering Unit is looking for a Senior Grouting Technician in our Eastern Regional Office.

    In this role you will:

    + assist with or independently inspect bridge approach slabs, slope protections, bridge wing walls, pipe liners, cross-line pipes,

    + perform a variety of calculations for material estimates and reporting,

    + assemble and disassemble grouting equipment,

    + monitor the condition of equipment and report maintenance and repair needs to supervisor,

    + mobilize grouting operations statewide,

     

    Frequent overnight travel will be required of this position.

     

    A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement is required for this position. Applicant will be given 60 days to obtain a Class A CDL Permit and 90 days from the date of hire to obtain a Class A CDL Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement.

     

    Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

    Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

    + Knowledge of cementitious grouting techniques, equipment, and materials.

    + Experience in highway, culvert, and bridge construction and/or maintenance.

    + Experience using specialized instruments such as sensitive movement and pressure measuring devices.

    + Experience taking notes and preparing reports of field activities using computers and tablets.

     

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Associates degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
