New Country Pride Camp is a 2-week program specifically for LGBTQ+ kids and kids from LGBTQ+ families. Pride campers and staff will experience all New Country Day Camp activities, plus participate in specialized programming designed to help them build community and explore identity. New Country Pride Camp is a division of New Country Day Camp that operates M – F, 8:00am – 5:00pm, and provides transportation for staff and campers to and from our campgrounds on Staten Island via multiple locations throughout Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. NCPC is a neurodiverse camp community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical campers and staff to have successful summers

JOB PURPOSE
New Country Pride Camp (NCPC) Counselors are passionate, enthusiastic, highly motivated, and responsible role models who are directly responsible for the well-being of campers from June 27th – July 11th, 2024. All campers either identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community or come from LGBTQ+ families and it is crucial for NCPC Counselors to have a mastery of age-appropriate engagement with campers in topics surrounding LGBTQ+ identity and community.
SCOPE OF INFLUENCE
Direct client group: Campers ages 5 – 11 (age group assignment TBD)
Directly supervised by: New Country Pride Camp Division Supervisor
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES Logistics
+ Attend all days of staff orientation before camp (evening and weekends in June)
+ Attend all days of camp and after-camp staff meetings during the summer
+ Communicate regularly and effectively with supervisor
+ Work harmoniously with assigned co-counselors
+ Maintain standards of camp conduct, behavior management protocols, and inclusion
+ When working with campers and fellow staff, uphold and implement NCDC camp values (personal growth, empathy, respect, and passion)
Camper Supervision
+ Assume responsibility for the physical and mental health and safety of campers
+ Keep a record of camper attendance, activity, behavior, and injuries/accidents
+ Provide quality supervision at all times (e.g. on the bus, in locker rooms during changing periods, during lunch, throughout swim periods and all transitional periods)
+ Assist bus supervisors with camper needs on the bus ride to and from camp
+ Focus on social dynamics and friendship building within assigned camper group
Camp Activities
+ Actively participate in all camp activities, including leading small group activities and assisting program specialists with assigned camper group as needed
+ Encourage all campers to participate and be their on-site daily support system
+ Engage campers in conversations and activities surrounding LGBTQ+ topics of identity, family, and community in an age-appropriate manner
JOB REQUIREMENTS Required Knowledge and Abilities
+ At minimum: Currently pursuing a college degree, or have related professional experience working with children or in education is required (work with LGBTQ+ youth strongly preferred)
+ Willingness to learn about and participate in Jewish culture and traditions
+ Enjoy working in a fully outdoor camp setting
+ Excellent communication skills
+ Collaborative, flexible, able to work in a fast-paced environment
+ Previous experience working with children from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
+ Experience working with neurodivergent children or children with disabilities is a plus
