Summary
The Laboratory Computer Systems Senior Analyst is responsible for the design, installation, and ongoing maintenance of the hospital’s Laboratory Information System (LIS). The Laboratory Computer Systems Senior Analyst also acts as a laboratory consultant for personnel computer programs, and all external systems interfaced with the LIS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Modify system profiles, master files, and program codes to implement system changes as mandated by hospital management, the medical staff, and/or federal, state, and local governments
+ Conduct system performance evaluations annually
+ Create project task plans and Gantt charts
+ Submit project update reports to the Director
+ Process oral and written feedback from user departments and medical staff
+ Prepare reports which include: application system documentation and specifications, and checklists for regulatory agencies
+ Work with user departments to assist in resolving problems encountered with laboratory system operations and access reports requested by user departments
+ Act as a liaison between the laboratory and the medical staff, as well as the nursing departments and the laboratory system vendor’s customer service representatives
+ Prepare detailed, written specifications for the system vendor delineating the functions and features desired by members of the hospital’s medical staff and/or laboratory management personnel
+ Coordinate the upgrade of new system software with enhancements to existing laboratory system applications
+ Prepare the necessary documentation on the functions and capabilities of such new additions, and conduct any necessary training
+ Ensure that applications perform according to system specifications
+ Maintain the security of the Laboratory System Database
+ Monitor system performance and report problems to the vendor’s customer service personnel
+ Work with hospital IT personnel to develop, maintain, and monitor interface requirements between the hospital’s information system and the laboratory information system
+ Utilize the system report writer and/or the integrated microcomputer technology to provide needed information to medical staff and hospital management personnel
+ Assist with the hiring and training of Laboratory Computer System personnel
+ Develop and maintain proper procedure manuals for the department
+ Update manuals to meet changing workload and inspection requirements
+ Review and update competency testing to coordinate with the actual testing within the department
+ Work with the staff and the Director in communicating ideas and solutions to problems
+ Participate in planning the annual budget for areas of responsibility to include capital equipment and personnel
+ Prepare for inspections by CAP, the State, Medicare, JCAHO, CLIA, and other organizations by conducting self-inspections prior to the regular inspection to ensure compliance to all necessary requirements
+ Serve as an inspector for CAP surveys of other LIS systems
+ Make sure all lab systems are updated on a continuous basis.
Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: B.S. in Biological Science or other medical sciences, including Information Technology
Preferred Education: N/A
Experience: 5+ years in the development and implementation of automated laboratory systems in a hospital/medical center environment; 3+ years in a hospital laboratory; and must be experienced with IBM computers, or compatible devices, and associated word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
