    ***This is a FULL-TIME, CONTRACTUAL C2 position*** *The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a neuroscience Laboratory Research Technician for the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology.*Under direct supervision, the selected candidate will work on NIH funded projects related to addiction and cognition. The goal of the laboratory is to gain a deeper understanding of the neural circuits governing cognitive control of action in the context of addiction. The lab employs modern neuroscience approaches including neural circuit monitoring and manipulation approaches combined with animal behavior, neurophysiology, pharmacology, and neuroanatomy. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland*. . *PRIMARY DUTIES* * Perform animal behavior experiments in combination with optogenetic and chemogenetic manipulation of specified brain circuits. * Perform in vivo calcium imaging of specified brain circuits as animals behave. * Assist in genotyping various genetically-modified mouse lines. * Collect, analyze, and publish data. * Assists in conducting research on current scientific literature using computerized applications. * Prepares chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, and buffers. * Assists with sterile procedures * Performs other duties as needed. *MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS* *Education:*Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or biomedical engineering. *Experience:*Prior basic laboratory experience is preferred. Experience with computer coding in MATLAB or Python is preferred. *Other:*Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience required on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. *REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES* Experience in MATLAB and/or Python coding is preferred, but in the least, a willingness to learn is desired.
