This role involves performing a variety of engineering research and product development tasks within the disciplines of electronic, electrical, systems, and mechanical engineering. The position requires the ability to apply advanced theory, mathematical, scientific, and engineering principles to solve complex problems, conduct testing, prepare documentation, and create applications or devices. The engineer will assist in designing and developing systems to test and validate solutions for repairable items.
Responsibilities
+ Design, modify, and implement test plans, specifications, and engineering changes based on system requirements.
+ Assist in the design, development, and modification of systems, end items, machines, and associated test plans.
+ Provide technical support to assess the status of repairable items based on system requirements.
+ Support the design and fabrication of electrical, mechanical, or electronic systems, assemblies, and subassemblies.
+ Contribute to design modifications through CAD and schematic software.
+ Complete assigned technical tasks and provide customer support in the engineering discipline.
+ Represent the organization and offer customer support.
+ Work effectively within a team environment.
+ Review procedures to ensure the adequacy of the test and repair processes.
+ Evaluate failure data received from field locations and offer recommendations for resolutions.
+ Offer technical solutions to a broad spectrum of difficult problems, ensuring solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organizational objectives.
+ Contribute to the completion of project milestones.
+ Conduct briefings and participate in technical meetings with internal or external representatives concerning operational specifics.
+ Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience or Master's degree with 0 years of experience.
+ U.S. Citizenship.
+ Public Trust security clearance required to start.
+ Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the engineering field.
+ General knowledge of related disciplines.
+ Experience with AutoCAD and CAD-type software.
+ Experience in design, development, research, and new product introduction (NPI).
+ Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
+ Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
+ Experience with schematic capture software and printed circuit board analysis.
+ Understanding of Analog/Digital Design, microelectronics, electrical systems, and software development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with depot-level repair and design.
+ Knowledge of device modeling (FPGAs, BGAs, etc.).
+ Familiarity with board and component layout.
+ Experience with schematic capture software.
+ Understanding of electronic and electromechanical components.
+ Knowledge of software design languages (JTAG, Arduino, and similar languages).
+ Familiarity with computer interface software (Python, ATEasy, or similar interface software).
+ Experience with system and test engineering methodology.
+ Green belt, LEAN, or Agile certification.
+ Completed EIT.
+ PE license.
Work Environment
The Electrical Engineer II will work at the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) located in Topeka, KS. This facility serves as a depot repair location for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts, such as printed circuit boards and various assemblies at the component level. The CRF provides depot-level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail, and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations across the country. The role offers the possibility to eventually transition to remote work one day per week. Dress code and facility conditions are typical of a government work environment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.50 - $37.50/hr.
