As a Civil Drafter, you will play a crucial role in recording survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and field work. You will prepare civil site layouts based on input from civil engineers and surveyors, and draft maps, layouts, and topographic mapping using AutoCAD Civil3D. Your work will involve preparing and reviewing rough sketches with the engineering team, identifying potential operational issues, and redesigning to improve functionality while ensuring final designs comply with regulations and quality standards. You will provide and gather data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features for engineering, construction, and other purposes, and assist in creating plans, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys.
Responsibilities
+ Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and field work.
+ Prepare civil site layouts based on input from civil engineers and surveyors.
+ Draft maps, layouts, and topographic mapping using AutoCAD Civil3D.
+ Prepare and review rough sketches with the engineering team.
+ Identify potential operational issues and redesign to improve functionality.
+ Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
+ Provide and gather data relevant to land features for engineering, construction, and other purposes.
+ Assist in creating plans, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
+ 3-5 years of Civil 3D drafting experience.
+ Experience in surveying CAD, including surface modeling and topographic drawing production.
+ Strong knowledge in drafting construction stake points, alta, and boundary points.
+ Strong land development and site plan knowledge.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
+ Strong attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associates in CAD is a nice to have.
+ Surveying CAD experience preferred.
+ Experience with construction planning and site development.
Work Environment
This position is based out of the Joliet office, which is primarily focused on surveying, or the Rosemont office if you have 5 years of experience and require minimal training. The Joliet office currently houses 6 Surveyors and 4 Drafters, while the Rosemont office holds mostly transportation teams. This role is 100% office-based, with training and teaching conducted in the Joliet office. You will have your own desk space and a shared office at either location. This long-term opportunity allows for growth into a leadership position within the drafting space, with potential to train and develop others. The firm is national, offering interaction with employees from other offices, including Rosemont, Burns Harbor, and Indy.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
