    **Job Description** We are currently seeking dedicated and skilled **aluminum welders** for our Steel Shop located in Norfolk, Virginia. This role offers an exciting opportunity for **aluminum welders** to contribute to advanced ship repair, conversion, and maintenance projects for both commercial and national defense assets.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform welding on various base metals including HY-80, HY-100, steel, aluminum, copper nickel, and stainless steel.

    + Utilize SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes with proficiency.

    + Ensure weld quality is acceptable for Non-Destructive Testing (N.D.T.).

    + Read and interpret weld gauges and symbols accurately.

    + Operate hand tools effectively with varying levels of supervision.

    + Follow standard item 1689 and the guidelines of 5 S.

    + Hook up oxygen and acetylene torches when necessary.

    Essential Skills

    + Knowledge of welding on different types of base metals.

    + Understanding of different wire and gas combinations for welding.

    + Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes.

    + Ability to weld in various positions and pass a weld test in either MIG, TIG, or both.

    + Familiarity with reading weld gauges and using hand tools.

    + Knowledge of standard item 1689 and 5 S guidelines.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with MIG, TIG, and **aluminum welding** .

    + Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

    **Work Environment** Work at Nassco and Navy yards in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The shift is from 6:00 AM to 2:45 PM with a 45-minute lunch break. No security clearance is required.

    **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $34.00/hr.
