Job Summary
The Office of Animal Resources (OAR) encourages applications for a Facility Manager! Our office provides routine and specialized care for a variety of small laboratory species, which are used by scientists for biomedical research and education at the University of Colorado Boulder. The Facility Manager provides hands-on oversight and management of the daily operations of the Animal Facility in accordance with regulatory practices and University of Colorado Boulder standards. The Facility Manager has supervisory responsibilities over the Animal Care positions operating in the Animal Facility. The Facility Manager reports to the Operations Manager and works closely with the other Facility Managers, as well as the other members of the Management Team, IACUC, Occupational Health and Facilities Management to ensure that OAR is running appropriately and is in compliance with regulatory agencies.

The OAR is a service center responsible for providing high-quality animal care, veterinary care, and support for the research and teaching missions of the University of Colorado, Boulder. The highly dedicated and experienced OAR staff is committed to the health and well-being of laboratory animals, student and investigator training, and technical service.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Examples of Work Performed:
1. Supervises the quality of animal care, facility operations and service of OAR, ensuring all aspects meet or exceed standards set by OAR, the University of Colorado Boulder, and regulatory and accrediting agencies.
2. Mentors and supervises Animal Care Technicians, to include professional development (including AALAS certification), performance management, training, hiring, and compliance with applicable OAR, IACUC, CU Boulder, and regulatory and accrediting agency policies.
3. Ensures facility equipment and infrastructure are functioning properly through regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and appropriate escalation of issues to the OAR operations manager, facilities management, and/or contracted service vendors. Works with OAR Operations Manager and OAR Finance Manager to proactively identify major capital equipment purchase needs.
4. Provides services to principal investigators and lab staff to include consultation on special husbandry and housing requests, personnel training on animal care procedures, and vivarium tours required for facility access.
5. Maintains records in accordance with applicable departmental, institutional, and regulatory requirements, to include personnel training, sanitation validation, equipment maintenance and function, room check-sheets, cage counts, and personnel timesheets.
6. Effectively uses the department's electronic systems to manage protocol and facility transfers, cage card requests/activation/deactivation, facility census, and OAR breeding colony management.
7. Proactively manages facility supplies through regular inventory analysis to ensure that necessary supplies are stocked at all times.
8. Works with research staff, OAR Operations Manager and OAR Director to appropriately and proactively manage housing and procedure space needs.
9. Contributes to departmental SOP and Policy development, review, and revision to ensure consistent and standardized or harmonized operations across OAR facilities.
10. Is the initial contact for facility-related emergencies, such as out-of-range temperature alarms or major equipment or infrastructure failures, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
11. Performs all other duties as assigned.
What We Can Offer
Starting salary is $57,500.00 - $70,000.00.

What We Require
+ Bachelor's of Science degree in a related field.
+ A minimum of two (2) years experience in a laboratory animal setting with a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial role in any field.
+ Education or experience may be substituted for each other depending on the type of education and experience gained.
