UPMC Hamot is hiring a Sr. Professional Staff Nurse to join the PACU!

Schedule: This full-time position offers rotating shifts Monday through Friday in either the Pre-Op or PACU areas. The department supports self-scheduling, with nurses receiving over 98% of their preferred shifts. Staff are required to work one weekend per month, with limited on-call responsibilities shared among a team of six to seven nurses. If called in, time is compensated at time and a half. The department is staffed 24/7, ensuring continuous support, and call requirements are minimal. Nurses are also scheduled for only two holidays per year.

**Overview:** The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who leads and upholds high standards of patient care. They are accountable for delivering quality nursing services, managing care for patients and families, and collaborating with healthcare teams. This role involves leadership, supervision, and partnership to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Additionally, the nurse fosters strong relationships with patients, families, and other providers, while demonstrating a commitment to both the community and the nursing profession.
Responsibilities:

+ Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required. BSN preferred.
+ Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care based on unit assignment.
+ Understands growth and development across the lifespan to assess and meet patient needs.
+ Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluations. Capable of building positive, caring relationships with all levels of staff and patients/families.
+ Able to work effectively in complex environments with shifting priorities and specialized equipment. Exhibits exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
+ Demonstrates leadership in applying the nursing process and guiding others. Requires mobility, manual dexterity, and physical stamina for patient care activities.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) within 6 months of hire or transfer.
+ Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one year of hire or transfer.
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Act 33 with renewal
+ Act 34 with renewal
+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
+ UPMC approved nursing certification preferred.
+ Annual completion of a professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director OR UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. OR Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
