    Job Announcement

     

    The Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (JDRDC) has jurisdiction over juvenile matters, offenses committed by adults against juveniles (youth under the age of 18), and family matters, except divorce, in Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the towns of Herndon, Vienna and Clifton. JDRDC is committed to the One Fairfax initiative, which promotes racial and social equity in services and employment practices.

     

    This position supervises pretrial caseload, enforces and applies court orders, files motions and violations. Supervises cases in the community, to include schools, workplaces, residences, and other areas as needed. Provides direct supervision and uses approved methods to approve and modify behavior. Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Note: Eligible employees certified as using a second language in their job (35% or more of their worktime) may receive a foreign language stipend in the amount of $1,300 annually where scheduled work time is more than 20 hours per week ($650 annually when scheduled work time is 20 hours or less per week).

    Knowledge of casework supervision practices and procedures;

     

    Knowledge of the principles of psychology and sociology;

     

    Knowledge of current social and economic conditions;

     

    Ability to use technology to enter and retrieve information;

     

    Ability to interpret laws, rules, and regulations related to probation work and victim services;

     

    Ability to interview and counsel clients;

     

    Ability to prepare complete case records and reports;

     

    Ability to develop effective working relationships with a variety of individuals.

     

    Employment Standards

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in social/behavioral sciences, criminal justice, or education plus two years of professional experience in probation work, social work, criminal justice, juvenile justice, education, or counseling. A master's degree in the disciplines above may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

    CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

    Valid driver's license (required at the time of application)

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + The appointee to the position will be required to complete the following to the satisfaction of the employer:

    + Criminal background investigation

    + Child Protective Services

    + Sanction screenings

    + Driving record check

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Experience working with CHINS cases.

    + Experience working with court-involved juveniles in a probation or pre-trial setting.

    + Experience using DJJ's Balance Approach Data Gathering Environment (BADGE).

    + Experience using the Supreme Court of Virginia's Case Management System (CMS).

    + Knowledge of CSA, IDT, or court processes.

    + Experience testifying in court.

    + Experience working with runaway and truancy cases.

    + Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team working on the team-based planning process to provide services to families.

    + Experience utilizing evidence-based practices.

    + Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

    + Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred to communicate with Spanish-speaking families.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

    + Ability to travel to various locations throughout Fairfax County to provide coverage, attend meetings and trainings.

    + Ability to walk, negotiate or traverse property sites that may be undergoing construction or having terrain that is not level.

    + Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.

    + Must be able to access clients' homes to perform regular home visits.

    + All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE:

    Panel interview and may include a practical exercise.
